    Summary

    For five years, Cliff Marleau has visited Ilya Rozanov in prison and kept his place warm in the world—because someone had to.

    Then Cliff asks his captain and best friend, Shane Hollander, to write Ilya a birthday letter.

    Shane, who lives inside the most carefully constructed closet in sports, signs it with one initial.

    The letters become calls in the dark. Shane falls for a man he has never touched, and Ilya takes apart thirty years of performing perfection with nothing but his voice.

    But Ilya cannot reach through the wall.

    So Cliff, who already carries the letters, the money, the messages, and the weight of loving them both, becomes the conduit: Ilya’s hands when Ilya cannot be there, his eyes when Ilya can’t see, his body lent so Shane can learn what it feels like to be touched by someone who knows him.

    Then Ilya gets out and walks from one locked room into another: Shane’s closet.

    Three men. Three locked rooms.

    The one who must learn how to be free.

    The one who was always free and never let himself be known.

    And the one who carried them both and never learned to ask for anything back.

    Summary

    “You told me to stay the fuck away, Rozanov. I’m trying to do what you asked.” Then he softened his voice, trying to slip words past the tangled knot of guilt in his throat. “But I’m sorry about Sasha.”

    The footsteps behind him grew louder, closer. Too close. “I don’t give a fuck about Sasha right now, Shane, I’m worried about you-“

    Shane felt warm, tentative fingertips brush against his elbow and couldn’t fight the icy panic that froze him in his tracks. “Don’t fucking touch me!” He hissed, yanking his arm away as he turned on his heel to face Ilya.

    He expected the other man to look confused or hurt, maybe even angry. But Ilya could always be counted upon to defy Shane’s expectations.

    “You saw it, didn’t you?” Rozanov’s eyes widened, but it wasn’t pity or fear that filled them. Just pained understanding. “What did it look like?”

    He would have to pry that information from Shane’s cold, dead body. At this rate, it wouldn’t take very long for him to end up that way.

    ~~~
    It’s the things we love most that destroy us. At least, that’s what they want Shane and Ilya to believe.
    Summary
    Shane is a college athlete counting down the seconds until the NHL sinks its teeth in him. He rushes Lambda Chi Alpha on the off chance that (gag) social connections and philanthropy optics might help the league notice him. The most magnetic scum in the frat takes an interest, and something tight in his chest starts to loosen.
    Ilya is a physiology student and Lambda’s resident debauchery planner. He's long chewed through his father’s leash, fashioning his independence out of abandonment. In a hockey star pledge he finds a new and messier purpose: untangling the most tightly wound person he’s ever met.
    You were only supposed to be a distraction.
