Summary
It takes Mito a while before she realizes how little she knows about what happened to Gon during the years he was away. Little by little, she draws out the things that have changed, and the things that haven't.
If a boy can become a Hunter, he must go through some kind of hell that Mito will never be able to fathom. Every day, Gon waves as he dashes away, looking nothing like someone who had killed a chimera ant and nearly died for it. She struggles to tie together the images, as different as day and night.

He can’t remember ever being touched so gently, being showered in chaste, gentle kisses like this, but it’s the best feeling he can recall by far He wants nothing more than for Gon to keep going, to kiss every scar he has. Surely they’d be here for hours, but Killua wouldn’t mind. As long as Gon was willing to continue, Killua would take every kiss, every kiss and then some."

"The rule about rules is the the first one Killua learns and it’s almost calming in its certainty and truth that everything in his life is simply a matter of learning the rules and obeying them. It’s clean in the way breaking a bone can be clean it hurts but it makes sense it leaves no jagged edges of misunderstanding just a simple syllogistic pattern that there are rules and they must be followed full stop."
Killua's picked up various rules throughout his childhood. Gon manages to be the exception to every one.

Gon smiles like his teeth hurt him to put away. Freely and achingly natural, like it would cause him pains to exist any other way. Killua has never seen him cry. Not properly. He thinks, if he did, he would look away. Like how you'd look away from a secret, or a horror. It is not something he could forget. It is not something he wants to know.
