He always believed soulmates, fiercely for no particular reason expect for the fact he liked that someone was promised to him by the universe. Since he was a kid, ever since his mom had told him about it, he dreamt about it. Of course, he knew now it wasn’t possible, but that didn’t mean his child self couldn´t try at least one. He tried to really focus on someone´s hand and try to imagine a thread coming out of there, with no avail, of course.
He was now an adult, but he still wished he could see it. He already knew it he couldn’t see his own, so that would be okay, but he wished he could see, for example, the one his friend should have. That way, he could have the certain that his friend was right, and the guy he was so head over heels was his soulmate.or
Just a classic story about two people who find each other, and are their most treasured people since then.

"Can you stay?" he asks, quiet. There was a time when he used to pretend he didn't need Lu Guang's comfort after some emotional dives. Not anymore - not after all they went through. "Just for a bit."
Lu Guang doesn't reply, doesn't sigh at Cheng Xiaoshi for being childish. He just cups both his shoulders and leads him onto standing, then directs them to the couch. There, he lets Cheng Xiaoshi lean his head against his shoulder.
They stay like this, quiet. Cheng Xiaoshi closes his eyes, and breathes out.

Summary
There’s nothing wrong with how Cheng Xiaoshi chooses to display his affection, really, it’s just that Lu Guang is overwhelmed and also a little terrified by the mere intensity of it. Qiao Ling doesn’t even seem to notice that anything’s changed, so maybe he’s the one being weird about it at all.
Or: Cheng Xiaoshi is showing symptoms of being in love and Lu Guang doesn’t know what to do with himself.

Summary
Cheng Xiaoshi was a gift and Lu Guang wouldn’t lose him.
It was no longer terrifying to him the lengths he would go, if it meant that he could keep Xiaoshi alive.
Happiness was important, but not truly a priority any longer in Lu Guang’s eyes.
