During the 2v1000, Wemmbu dies.
It's all very tragic and sad, but not for Flame, because they're not friends. They're not, never will be. And he'd be perfectly fine wilfully ignoring the cloying, tight sensation in his chest if not for the fact that immediately after, he wakes up back in his bed on the morning before the battle.
Or, a time-loop of sorts, in which Wemmbu refuses to stay alive and Flame refuses to let him go

“Put your armor on. They know we’re here.” Parrot whispered, the clanking of netherite audible as his frame came into view. Theo did the same, wiping at his face again. His eyes watered, sinuses screaming. “How many carts do you have?”
Theo already knew the answer to that, but he took a moment to clear his throat before answering. “I only have four. The rest are in my enderchest back there,” He responded, voice weaker than he had originally anticipated. Shit, I might be actually getting sick.
OR:
Theo gets sick while him and Parrot break into the Law stronghold. It goes more south than he originally anticipated.
