Summary
A flicker of movement catches his attention, and he watches as one of his kitchen knives slides itself out of the wooden block and hovers ominously over the marble island. It’s not even a steak knife, but one of the smaller, thinner ones, meant to cut fruit or something.
“Is that supposed to be scary,” Andrew asks the ghost.
The knife bobs up and down in the air, like a nod.
Andrew considers it for a moment, considers the last time he felt even an ounce of true fear, when his words meant nothing and all he could hold close were boundaries that no one deigned to respect.
“Eh,” he says, waving his hand in a see-saw, so-so motion.
—
Or, Andrew moves into a supposedly-haunted house, and ends up saddled with a ghost named Neil.

Summary
Wymack’s voice trails off, words stuttering to an abrupt stop. All heads turn, slowly following the path of Wymack’s gaze.
Andrew spots him almost immediately - hair as black as night, curls gentle and full atop his head. He’s got a bruise the size of a baseball around his eye, freckles spattered out around it like an explosion of stardust. His eyes are the colour of the sky, cresting with storm clouds.
His hands are in his pockets as he walks by, fisted around something. He doesn’t look at any of them as he passes, eyes downcast.
Andrew’s never seen him before.
“What the hell happened to your face, Neil?” Wymack shouts, voice startling in the aftermath of silence. Neil doesn’t stop, plundering by the team and their coach without a second-glance.
__
In which Wymack adopts Neil at the age of 13, after the world has already chewed him up and spit him back out a few times over.
The Foxes are still the Foxes, and Neil and Andrew are still destined to find each other.

Summary
“Is something wrong with the car?”
“No- uh- no-” He clears his throat, trying to catch his breath. “I think- mmm- I think I am going to pass out.” He knows those are not words he should be saying on the radio. It’s dangerous. Anyone could hear it. But-
“Max, pull off to the side. Now.”
Max would shake his head but he knows it’s a bad idea. “No, No,” but he’s having trouble getting the words out. They're slurring together and the pulse behind his eyes is unrelenting. The world’s nothing more than a black and white blur, GP’s voice struggling to be heard over the intensifying ringing. “I-I can make it to pit I just-”
“Now Max.”
