    Summary

"Now. Must I remediate basic survival instincts, as well? Stand up or get shot."

Aventurine doesn't understand half of those words, but it doesn't matter. The gun speaks clearly enough.

Kakavasha's riskiest gamble pays off, and he is hired by the Interastral Peace Corporation as Aventurine. A second chance at life, if he can survive it.

Without a Synesthesia Beacon, every conversation is a puzzle, a bluff. The new Stoneheart has learned to fake fluency in the IPC's language, Universalis, the same way he learned everything else: through observation and context, by slipping through the cracks with charm and deception.

That is, until Dr. Ratio cares enough to scrutinize him, and refuses to look away.

    Summary

“Hah. Right. Considering that you already know my identity, I’m flabbergasted that you haven’t locked me up at the first chance.” Aventurine wryly smiled. “You should be lucky, though. That wallet of yours was very tempting.”

“And now what I’m hearing is that you’re a thief.”

“Woah, woah. I would never do such a heinous thing, Prince.”

    The man scowled.

    “Ratio.”

    Ratio?

Aventurine scoffed, tilting his head with a snarky expression. “Oh? So you want to keep up the commoner disguise and make me call you by your regular name? You’re basically telling me that I can use your identity as blackmail, Prin—”

Ratio glared. “I can out you for your offense if you want to try, Aventurine.”

    Or:

Prince Ratio is disguised as a commoner when he encounters a Mage who tries to wipe themselves from his memory.

Avenurine is a Mage who tries to wipe himself from a Prince's memory.

And they both didn't expect to encounter each other at a peaceful village a few days later.

    Summary

“At least if I’m here and things go wrong, I can try to keep you from doing anything particularly reckless, though I doubt my chances of success.”

The words made the growing flame in Aventurine’s heart burn a little brighter. What had started out as barely smoldering coals was quickly becoming something he had trouble keeping under control. “Careful. If you keep talking like that, I’ll start to think you’re worried about me.”

For a moment, Ratio was silent. He could feel Aventurine’s expectant gaze on him, waiting for a response. “I had thought that was obvious,” he said quietly.

Two lonely men with vast differences take a chance to reach out to one another, and find something far more powerful than their pain.

    Summary

He is just a man. Slightly smaller than average, nearly a head shorter than Ratio himself, but a man nonetheless.

They have worked together for years. Why is he only now so.. bothered, by the size of him? Is that the correct word to describe these emotions? Was it a singular incident that spawned this fascination, or a compounding number of many smaller incidents? Why?

    "Hey, doctor?"

Dr. Ratio is distracted by how small Aventurine is compared to him, his classroom forums have noticed his different demeanor, and Aventurine really just wants to get this mission done.

    Summary

He had never seen a human this close, never felt the texture of their skin; hundreds of questions filled his mind, though only one made it past his lips: “Why did you save me?”

The pirate’s eye widened, and his jaw dropped, reeling back. "You speak English?!”

Veritas leveled him with a stare. “No. It's obviously German."

The man opened his mouth to retort something, but a voice interrupted their exchange.

“Yo Captain, what the fuck is going on.”

It was then that he noticed the other people standing around the beach, hands resting on the handles of their sabers or pistols. His chance of escape shrunk marginally.

    Shit.

Veritas Ratio is a curious creature – this trait of his has always brought him to places no sane merman would dare go. Aventurine is... well, he's supposed to be dead, but... evidently isn't. And he's trying his damn hardest to keep it that way. And he's certain Veritas will be his saving grace, once and for all.
