Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.
Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.
And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.

He slowly lowered his hand back down to his lap, dropped his gaze to his book as if he hadn’t paid attention to their banter at all. Unfortunately, he was not half as subtle as he wished to be.
The odds of everyone raising their hands were high, which was why Bob joined in—he expected it to be funny. He did not expect the joke to be thrown back at him when John said, “All right, if Bob’s scar is cooler than mine, I’ll concede.”
The Thunderbolts start comparing their scars and Bob starts spiraling.

"You said it. Not me." He laughs softly at that, breath ghosting against the rifle as he leans just a fraction into the contact. It's a dangerous play, and one that pays off as Dex's hold eases up by a hair. "And there are a lot of other pretty things I can do with my face."
(Or, it was supposed to be just sex and emotional manipulation. Somehow, feelings got in the way.)
