   Summary

   When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.
   She orders Simon to bring Grace back to the surface, and thus begins Grace's ordeal in a starless universe.

   Simon Fleischer is head engineer in the biology department at Grace's work and does not take shit from ANYONE... but Grace wanted to be a molecular biologist, why is he stuck as an assistant rushing to get his hellspawn boss's coffee in the morning and scheduling for him?! Now he's stuck pretending to be Simon's fiance at his grandma's birthday because Simon's visa expired? The world is turning upside down for Ryland Grace and there's no telling whether he'll survive this... or get sent to jail for marriage fraud.

   Summary

   After surviving the unsurvivable, Simon is brutally executed at the hands of Consolidation of Iron, rather than granted his freedom. He awakes in a morgue—memories shattered in two—and fundamentally changed in a way nobody is prepared for. Simon must battle his deteriorating psyche, a traumatic past seeping through the cracks, and something eldritch pulling at the edges of his reality, as he re-learns a story everyone seems to know but himself.
