Here is something Everettian quantum mechanics is very clear on, no matter what the kids on TikTok tell you: crossing from one universe to another would be very bad for both of them. The universe is kind of supposed to be a closed-off thing, and when it turns into an open thing, it has a tendency to spill its organs into the nothingness between worlds. We wouldn't know if this happened until it was too late. Elves, who are much more sensitive to changes in the fabric of the universe, can tell. What they don't know is who caused it, how bad the damage is, or if Damien, the accidental tenth walker, is secretly the most powerful evil being they've encountered yet. (Spoiler: he's not.)
This is my attempt to semi-scientifically explain how, within the constraints of Tolkien's soft magic system, a tenth walker from our world might cross over. I'm being as book-compliant as possible. Expect a lot of messed up effects of magic, realistic representation of the tenth walker experience (0/5 do not recommend), and the extreme effects of the quote "elves are terrific; they beget terror" on my psyche and writing. I have 11 chapters backlogged and all of them planned so you can expect this fic to be finished!

Summary
The fellowship is stranded on an island near Lothlórien during a flood. There, they have to manage to spend time together without losing their minds, which is harder than expected. Though no danger from the outside can reach them here, their fragile bonds seem to break as an unexpected treachery from within challenges the entire fellowship.
It's a comedy-tragedy-hybrid, focusing on the events up to Boromir's death. Frodo cries a lot, his cousins are silly as always, Sam tries to be responsible, Aragorn and Boromir have a problem (a one-sided one, at least), and Legolas and Gimli spend too much time together. Gandalf and the author are done (the former even dead). -

Summary

“Please, Pippin. I do not wish to talk any more.”
“Alright.” Pippin swallowed back the guilt rising in his throat. Pulling his wrist away from Legolas’ hand, he took it in his own once more, pressing it to his chest.
“So you can feel I’m still here, even when you sleep,” he explained quietly.
(Legolas and Pippin have been rescued by the Fellowship. As they continue their quest towards Mordor, they find that not every wound can be fixed with just medicine, and that more terrible ones may be forming just below the surface.)
