Summary
Vines are tied around his ankles as he hangs upside down in the trees, unmoving. He’s been in this position for about twenty minutes now, and he's not planning on leaving it, not until whoever—whatever—he’s hunting decides to show its face. He knows he can't stay upside down forever, but there's really no good spots on the floor for him to lay down, he’d be in an awkward position no matter what, and at least he can see when he’s propped up in a tree, he has leverage of not craning his neck.
So, up in the trees he is.
He's always calm in these moments, keeping his breaths steady despite feeling like his lungs are being crushed. It's best to stay calm when he's camouflaged against nature, not wanting to disturb the peace or break anything. He knows well enough that nature is something cherished, a gift someone like him doesn't deserve to have. Yet, as he blends in with nature, his body lax and unmoving, he positions his scope as he sees something move. Narrowing his eyes, he notices the demon, and pulls the trigger.
Bullseye.

Being like this, different, has never really bothered Genya. He's been working like this for a bit now, abandoning the “art of a sword” and simply throwing his guns around, popping heads off. So, upon hearing about the Hashira Training, he didn't think about joining in. Why would he? He wasn't like other demon slayers—
Well. He never has been, what other demon slayer doesn't have breaths and ate demons to gain powers because they're pathetic? Pathetic enough to stoop to the low of eating demons to just live and win.
He doesn't know. He doesn't know.
He sits on the boulder, staring at his crow. He doesn't want to do this, and he decides he won't. It's not like this is mandatory, right? He can get out of it by not using swords anymore, so he's sure it’ll work. Right?
Right?
But staring at his crow, he's realizing that he's already training under a Hashira. Gyomei isn't just going to let him avoid the training.
But he can try.
He can damn well try.
