Description:

After being touched by the Beacon on Eden Prime in 2183, Commander Jase Shepard (orphan and sole survivor) wakes up in an alternate reality where no one recognizes him, having lost everything, including Kaidan Alenko, the man he loves.

Commander Irimsaya Shepard (Spacer and sole survivor) realizes who she's found and helps her other self, giving him a home and a place to stay, including a family he's never had.

From then on, the two Shepards stick together, mastering the many obstacles life throws at them during the Reaper War (2186) and the years that follow.

Fifteen years later in 2202, old rivals and enemies are once again throwing the galaxy into shambles. Saya Shepard, Kaidan and Dan are forced to deal with their personal problems, while Jase's old and never fully healed wounds break open and bring him down.

Notes:

Co-written with Irimsaya, my long-time friend, using good old-fashioned e-Mail style.
We used to play text RPGs for various fandoms and started writing our own RPG for Mass Effect.
Surprisingly, it turned into a long fanfiction (1,000,000+ words) that we started writing back in January 2012.
We found it hard to part with our Shepards and kept both of them, replaying the ME1-ME3 games but using the writing medium instead, and decided to go even further.

A few things to consider before reading:
- We write in round-robin style without having a plot beforehand. We have a basic idea what we might want to do, and then things happen.
- MShenko is mentioned. But it's a constant in Jase's life as he'll always love his Kaidan
- We like to throw each other into problems (the sweetness of writing together!)
- I often consult the mass effect wiki to keep things ME-real, but keep in mind: it was originally written only for my friend and me. Sometimes things can go out of hand in such 'games'.
- For Mass Effect 1 we have used a lot of in-game dialogue. At the time, it made sense.

 

After a long break, we started writing again in August 2022, continue in 2023 and 2024.
"New Tides" (p 11) was interesting to write, and we had a lot of fun. It is a set-up for "Beyond the Relay" (p 12), which leads us to "Beyond and Before" (p 13).
"Future Fracture" (p 14) is in the editing process while we continue to write "Power Dynamics" (p 15)
