Work Text:
Everyone had been having a rough week what with all the promotions, stages, and interviews and all. However, Jungkook seemed to be a bit more high strung than the others. He was overworking himself in the practice room and not getting nearly enough sleep for as much work as they do. In return for stretching himself too thin, he'd become irritable beyond belief. The others tried to avoid him when he'd gotten into a mood, however it wasn't always avoidable, especially since they all lived together. Seokjin, Namjoon, and Yoongi didn't pay it any mind, muttering something about hormonal teenagers and mood-swings before walking off to a different room. It was different for Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin, mainly because they still needed the interaction with Jungkook seeing as he was the youngest and they enjoyed being around him. At least, for the most part.
It didn't take very long for Hoseok and Taehyung to figure out when Jungkook wasn't in the mood to play. Having been yelled at and practically thrown from the room, Taehyung quickly learned to leave the maknae to his frustration in the isolation of his own room. Hoseok had found out in a similar way, also getting yelled at, but rather than being thrown from a room, he'd been shrugged off rather harshly and shoved past. Jimin, on the other hand, was the only person that hadn't been yelled at by Jungkook, partly for just allowing him space, and partly because Jungkook doesn't yell at Jimin. It just doesn't happen, and a good thing too, because he was awfully sensitive when it came to criticism and someone being upset with him.
One particular day, the boys had been given the day off and everyone had gathered around the dining table to have breakfast. Yoongi and Namjoon sat across from one another, both reading some form of newspaper or article, Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin giggled from one side of the table about something or other, and Jungkook sat quietly next to Jimin whilst Seokjin brought the rest of the food out. Once everything was laid out, they filled their plates and dug in. After breakfast, Yoongi half-yelled down the hallway about going to the studio to finish up some work with Namjoon, saying that they'd be back eventually. Seokjin took care of dishes, knowing that if Taehyung were involved that the kitchen would be covered in bubbles and soaked in water, and preferred to do it himself. Hoseok decided to take Taehyung to a movie they'd been talking about for weeks, leaving Jimin on his own for entertainment.
Jimin sat in his room for an hour, finishing the book he was reading and finding himself with absolutely nothing else to do. He thought for a moment, taking the risks into consideration before finally deciding to go attempt to get Jungkook to hang out with him, whether it be watching a movie or working out. He found himself peeking inside Jungkook and Namjoon's shared room, spotting the younger propped against his headboard scrolling through his phone. When Jimin reached his bed, he sat down and smiled over at his boyfriend.
"Jungkookie, do you want to watch a movie with me?" Jimin asked hopefully, watching as Jungkook glanced up at him then back at his phone.
"No thanks." The short reply wasn't about to deter him just yet.
"Well, how about we go work out? Seokjin's the only one home and he said he wanted to try out a new recipe. I know you've been stressed out lately so maybe working out wo-"
"I said no. Can you just leave me alone?" Jungkook's sharp reply cut Jimin off mid-sentence, startling him and sending an unnerving feeling pulsing through his gut.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean t-to annoy you. I just figured since we haven't spent a lot of time toget-"
"Maybe the reason we haven't been spending time together is because I don't want to? You ever think of that?" Once again, Jungkook's irritated reply cut Jimin short, this time his volume raising into a shout, causing tears to surface but not spill.
"O-okay. I'm sorry, I'll leave you alone." The shake in Jimin's voice caught Jungkook's attention for a split second before he dismissed it, glancing at the door once Jimin had left.
Jimin sniffled quietly, making his way back to his own room, and unfortunately bumping into Seokjin on the way. He could see the tears about to fall and he had a pretty good idea as to why. His motherly instincts kicked in and he hugged Jimin gently, before allowing him to go into his room. It was about three hours before everyone returned to the dorms, lunch ready on the table and silence throughout the dorm. Namjoon and Yoongi looked at each other before slowly leading Hoseok and Taehyung through the living room, caution in mind as they looked around. They found Seokjin and Jungkook sitting at the table, waiting for the others to join them. Everyone sat down and started putting food on their plates before Taehyung noticed something wrong.
"Hey, where's Jiminie?" He frowned and looked between Jungkook and Seokjin.
Jungkook shrugged, uninterested, and Seokjin sent a sad look to Tae, the expression immediately registering and causing him to stumble to his feet. He excused himself for a moment and trotted towards he and Jimin's shared room, poking his head in to see a bundle of blankets on Jimin's bed. He walked over and nudged Jimin, slowly pulling him out of his nap. However, the sight before him stopped Taehyung in his tracks. He looked at his best friend, eyes red and puffy, pink cheeks, and tear streaks down his face, before squatting down to his eye level to talk to him.
"Hey," Taehyung tried to encourage a smile and failing, "lunch is ready. You wanna come eat?" His efforts were met with a sad refusal to which he just hugged him slightly and nodded understandingly.
Taehyung returned to the table and looked over to Jungkook, a suspicious and slightly pissed expression present on his normally bright face. After lunch, Tae pulled Seokjin aside and demanded he be told what happened. About five minutes and an explanation later, Taehyung was uncharacteristically quiet. He was beyond pissed, so far past pissed that you couldn't even see pissed anymore. Taehyung could handle being manhandled and yelled at by Jungkook, completely used to the behavior, however for him to yell at his own boyfriend, Taehyung's best friend, was crossing a line. Not only did he yell at his mochi, he made him cry. With that, Taehyung saw red. Just as he was about to go tell Jungkook where he could stick his attitude, Jimin came out of his room. He was wrapped in blankets, rubbing his eyes like a sleepy toddler as he waddled into the kitchen, grabbed a water bottle, and went back to their room. Taehyung, being his best friend, followed him and sat on the edge of his bed.
"Are you okay? Is there anything I can do?" Tae's deep voice was filled with concern as he rubbed Jimin's back.
"He's never yelled at me like that before. I just-," Jimin took a deep breath, trying to calm the tears threatening to spill over, "He said he didn't want to spend time with me. I don't know what to do."
"It's okay. It'll all be okay." Taehyung pulled Jimin into his chest, letting him cry as much as he needed to until he finally fell asleep.
Outside the room, Yoongi had angrily pulled Jungkook to the door by his ear and forced him to listen to what he'd done. Seokjin had told everyone what was going on, only after Namjoon had asked why Taehyung looked like he wanted to murder someone. Once he'd processed what had happened, Jungkook felt a deep ache inside his chest. He'd hurt his boyfriend, and what made it worse was that everyone in the dorm now shot him dirty looks whenever he walked by. He waited in the living room for Jimin to come out, only to be disappointed when Taehyung came out and whispered something into Seokjin's ear, completely ignoring Jungkook's existence as he walked back into the room. He thought Jimin would definitely come out for dinner, knowing that Seokjin wouldn't let him get away without eating lunch and dinner, but no. Yoongi took two plates to their room before they all began to eat, slapping the back of Jungkook's head on his way back to his seat.
For the next week, it rained extremely heavily and caused their schedules to be cancelled, which meant that they were all stuck in the dorms together for an entire week. After about three days, Jungkook realized that Jimin wasn't about to come out of his room anytime soon, and Taehyung wasn't allowing Jungkook to get anywhere near him until he felt Jimin was ready to see him again. Jungkook may have been the strongest int he group, but he was not about to fuck with a pissed off Taehyung. Around the fifth day, Yoongi had yanked Jungkook aside a second time, again by his ear, and gave him a stern talk.
"You better fucking fix this. I've never seen him so upset and I swear, on all that is holy, if you don't fix it, then I will personally castrate you with a butter knife." Yoongi poked Jungkook's chest harder for emphasis at the end of the sentence.
Yoongi may have been a small man, but he was capable of being the most terrifying person on earth. It wasn't until Jimin decided to come sit in the living room with the others to watch a movie that Jungkook realized the effect his shouting had caused. Jimin's eyes were red and puffy from crying and he wasn't able to even acknowledge Jungkook's presence. Jungkook was going to sit next to him and ask him if he could talk but he was denied that when Taehyung glared at him and sat down next to Jimin, allowing him to rest on his shoulder. After the movie, he attempted to talk to Jimin, but this time it wasn't Taehyung who stopped him.
"Don't. I don't want to talk about it, just leave it alone. Maybe it's best we take a break." Jimin's voice cracked at the end, a single tear falling down his face as he turned and rushed back to his room.
It took Jungkook two hours before he remembered what exactly a break implied. He'd seen T.V shows and movies, and Jungkook was not about to lose Jimin. Not by a long shot. He shuffled to Jimin's door and rapped his knuckles against it, finding that his personal bodyguard, Taehyung, answered and nearly shut the door in his face.
"Wait! Please, Tae. Let me make this right." Taehyung looked at him with caution before leaning into Jungkook's face.
"You better not hurt him anymore." Jungkook agreed and slid past him, watching as he slipped out the door to allow them privacy.
It took Jungkook a moment before he found the courage to gently nudge Jimin awake, albeit on his knees with tears in his eyes, but courage nonetheless. Jimin turned over, blinking sleepily, and probably thinking it was Tae. When he saw the face looking back at him, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath before looking back into the eyes that he fell in love with.
"Baby." The lump in Jungkook's throat was evident as choked up, tears falling faster than the rain outside.
"I'm so sorry." Jungkook grabbed Jimin's hands hesitantly, as if he were scared he would pull away and tell him to leave, "I never wanted to hurt you. I was stressed and exhausted, but I know that doesn't give me the right to treat you like that."
"Please, please forgive me. I know I'm a total douche, and I don't deserve you at all, but you're the only thing that really matters to me and I don't think I could live with myself if I let my stupidity push you away." Jimin could hear the raw emotion in Jungkook's voice, feeling his hands tremble as he rubbed circles into the backs of his hands.
Jungkook felt Jimin pull his hands away and assumed the worst, a sob breaking through as he rubbed his eyes quickly as if he were trying to maintain some dignity, which was not helping. He didn't hear Jimin shift to sit up, until he cupped Jungkook's jaw and pulled him to sit in between his legs, hands immediately going to Jimin's lower back as they kissed. Jungkook fisted the back of Jimin's shirt and tried to pull him as close as possible, failing until Jimin tugged him upward to lay on the bed. They separated for a moment, just breathing and listening to each other, before they looked into each other's eyes. Jungkook could see the love behind Jimin's eyes, sparkling and pulling him deeper in love with the man before him. It was in that moment, that Jungkook saw the smile he so desperately missed, and surged forward to cradle Jimin against his chest, still whispering sweet promises into his ear as they lay there. Jimin allowed it, falling easily into his giant of a boyfriend, missing the warmth and security he felt when he was tucked into his chest.
That night, Jungkook made sure that Jimin knew exactly how sorry he was and promised to make it up to him for the rest of his life, if that's what it took. Eventually, they'd fallen asleep tangled together so tightly that you couldn't tell where one began and the other ended. Jimin slept with his face pressed into Jungkook's neck and arms wound around his waist, gripping the back of his shirt tightly in his small fingers. Taehyung walked in after about an hour, but decided to bunk with Yoongi for the night after feeling the intimacy in the atmosphere. The next morning, everyone sat down to breakfast, except for the two lovebirds. Namjoon and Seokjin just looked at one another with small smiles, Hoseok paid no attention to the absence, and Taehyung nudged against Yoongi slightly with a grin, resulting in Yoongi ruffling his hair and grinning back with a gummy smile. Finally, balance was restored to the dorms.
And just like that, the rain stopped.
