On the plush sofas, against the floor to ceiling glass windows, was lounged Jimin. Mentally unpresent. Uninterested yet besieged gaze at the bustling cars down on the street, submerged in his own thoughts. He missed the elegant sales girl throwing a dressed Jungkook an awkward glance, then posing a well mannered smile. Jimin also missed Jungkook’s agony hazed eyes, before the younger one turned and went back to the changing room. Ready to try on a new suit.
It was Jimin’s second time doing it. And Jungkook said absolutely nothing.

There’s more to being an alpha than just knotting your omega wherever, whenever. Be the alpha for once, okay?”

Summary
He always feels a bit like they’re stuck in a race where Jungkook is faster than him. Where he’s miles ahead and unreachable in a way that’s unfathomable. Where Jimin is struggling to keep up and is forever destined to stare at Jungkook’s back, a hand perpetually extended to try and reach for him.
Jimin doesn’t want to surpass Jungkook. He just wants to run alongside him. As an equal, as a friend, as a partner. Is that truly so much to ask for?
Or: Following the end of their Vietnam trip, Jimin stumbles across a video compilation of the rocky relationship he had with Jungkook at the very beginning of their debut years. Slapped with a blast from the past and suddenly drowning in insecurities he thought he'd long suppressed, he decides that slowly pulling away from Jungkook is the only right thing to do.
Jungkook, however—a redeemed man, a pining expert, and someone with an extremely low tolerance for any kind of space between them—has much to say about it.
