Chapter Text
The ride back into Pittsburgh had been a long one. A fifteen hour shift followed by a night working in the farm had made Dennis feel dead on his feet, and the crying baby hadn’t helped.
Not that he minded helping Amy, but it was a lot. Like a lot. So the idea of going to Robby’s and taking a nice long shower in what he thought was going to be a very fancy bathroom sounded amazing. Sliding the key into the lock, he quickly opened the door and typed in the security code that he’d been given the previous night before dropping his bag and looking around.
Apparently cleaning was part of his job as a house-sitter. His eyes landed on the sofa where a pile of scrubs and a shirt were tossed, noticing they were the some clothes that Robby had worn yesterday. Laundry could wait until he had showered, though, and if Robby was a bit of a slob then he didn’t really need to worry about making a mess, not if he was going to clean anyway. After kicking off his boots he pulled off his shirt and pushed his jeans down. He was definitely doing to need a new pair soon, they were starting to stretch. Oh well, he’d gotten five years out of them.
"This is weird." He spoke to himself as he looked around the house. He was in his boss’s home, in just his underwear. While it was definitely something he’d hoped would happen one day, this was not what he’d had in mind. But he was used to taking whatever scraps he could get. He couldn’t help but stare at the pictures on the wall. When he thought of how Robby would live, he was torn between extremely minimal with barely a couch, or a home that was luxurious and filled with memories. Luckily it was the latter. Photos lined the walls. A young Robby graduating med school. An even younger Robby in college. Robby probably a few years younger than he was now, stood beside a short man that Dennis knew to be Doctor Adamson. So many memories, it was no surprise that Robby always seemed haunted by ghosts. Grabbing his phone, he opened his Spotify playlist and turned the volume up as high as he could before losing his underwear and moving upstairs, opening a few doors before finding the bathroom. One of those bedrooms had definitely been Robby’s.
Taking a breathe, he left the bathroom door open before moving back into Robby’s room, noticing the door in the corner. The older man had invited him into his home, and told him to take care of it, so it made sense to make himself familiar with all rooms, right? Pushing open that door, he found an en-suite bathroom, a perfect mix of modern and classical. Dark tiles across the wall, with a vintage mirror hanging above an old sink. In the corner stood a small shower booth, with a shower head that definitely looked older than him.
While Love Affair sang their greatest hit, Dennis turned the shower on and stepped inside, moaning at the feeling of the water on his skin. While the shower in his bathroom at Trinity’s was nice, this was heaven.
"Whenever love went wrong, ours would still be strong, we’d have our very own everlasting love." Massaging the shampoo into his hair, Dennis couldn’t help but imagine that he wasn’t alone in the shower. It was wrong, and inappropriate, and would probably earn him a punch, but here in Robby’s shower he couldn’t help but think of the older man beside him, pressed up against him as he rubbed his hands up to his waist and leant his chin upon his head as the water rained down upon them. It was glorious.
As the song changed he rinsed out his hair and turned his attention to his body, and the layer of dirt that the farm always seemed to leave on his skin. He loved to be out there but damn if it didn’t cause him to spend a lot of time in the shower. His hands were cleaned first, then his legs, before he moved on to his arms and armpits. He was deliberately leaving his crotch until last in the hope that the water would run cold and kill all of the thoughts in his head, because imagining Robby in his shower was a lot different to jerking off while imaging Robby in his shower.
Unfortunately, and as it usually was, the universe was against him as even as the third song on his playlist was playing, the hot water was still running. Deciding against jerking off, he put all of his energy into wrapping his lips around the lyrics of Natalie Cole, hoping to focus on something else. "So long as I’m living true love I’ll be giving to you I’ll be serving ‘cause you’re so deserving, hey, you’re so deserving, you’re so deserving." Letting out a shaky breath he turned the water off, and opened the door, wrapping a towel around his waist as steam filled the room. There was no doubt in his mind that this whole thing was a bad idea, but now that he was here he couldn’t bring himself to leave.
Especially not when the only clothes he had with him were dirty. Time to do that laundry. Leaving his phone on the bed, Dennis started to walk down the stairs, only stopping when the towel slipped on occasion. While he wasn’t in full view of the windows, he did still worry about flashing a neighbour. It was only when he got to the bottom of the stairs and looked around the hall that he realised that something was wrong. His clothes weren’t there. And then he heard a sound from what could have been the kitchen and shit, he was in just a towel and somebody had broken in. He desperately looked around for a weapon that he could use because if he was going to be murdered in a towel while Diana Ross played he was going to go down swinging, but there was nothing there. Shit. Against his better judgement, he slowly moved down the corridor, inching along.
"Morning."
"HOLY SHIT!" Dennis screamed as he spun around, losing his footing and falling back as his towel slipped off, and there was on the floor of his boss’s house, naked, as something cried. He must have a concussion because he could have sworn that sounded like a baby.
"Whitaker, you good?" How did they know his name? With a groan he looked up, or technically down as the person was stood at his feet. Groaning, he lifted his gaze, looking at boots, then jeans, and a leather jacket, a baby, and then Robby’s face.
Huh? A baby. What was Robby doing with a baby? Wait. Robby. "Fuck fuck fuck." Dennis tried to push himself up and turn around but ended up catching his foot on Robby’s boot, sending him back down to the floor, leaving his ass on display. The entire moment would have been laughable if it wasn’t so confusing and humiliating. The man he’d spent months fantasising over had seen him naked. Butt ass naked. In his own home. While holding a baby. He couldn’t help but cry as Robby stood behind him.
"I’d offer to help you up but this little one definitely needs both hands." Robby’s voice was surprisingly not angry. More sympathetic than anything. "If it helps you’re not the only person who’s fell over naked in this hallway. Alcohol and high school hookups don’t mix well."
Through the tears Dennis couldn’t help but laugh. "Amen to that."
Robby chuckled behind him. "Come on, your clothes are in the wash but I’ve got some old stuff in the spare room that might fit you, middle door on the left."
With great difficulty, Dennis wrapped the towel back around him and got to his feet, only noticing the pain above his eyebrow as his hair brushed it and he saw Robby wince.
"Yeah we might need to fix that, but go get dressed. And bring your phone, sounds like this one likes the old music." Robby bounced the baby in his arms, and Dennis finally took in the sight of it. Wrapped in a blanket that he recognised from his pedes rotation, a question bloomed in his mind.
"Doctor Robby. Did you kidnap baby Jane Doe?"
