Work Text:

Weiss awoke with the distinct feeling that today just might be a good day. It was as if she could hear nothing but the birds chirping outside her dorm window, and the faint sound of a musical backdrop that only existed in her mind. After all, this was no fairy tale and random musical accompaniments did not exist in real life. But a girl could dream, right?

As she sat up in bed, yawned and stretched, she got the feeling that someone was watching her. Clearly she was too sleepy to have noticed right away, or else she would have immediately spotted the unmistakable form of her Big Red perched right beside the bed, looking like she was ready to…

POUNCE!

Without so much as a “Hello again!” or any other verbal warning, Pyrrha lunged and wrapped her arms around Weiss who let out a small squeak as she got smothered in the surprise hug, then assaulted by the shock attack of a big eager kiss on her cheek. The force of being tackled in such a hug had them flopping back against the bed on their sides, Pyrrha’s grip firm as she brought Weiss flush against her.

She pulled back just enough to make eye contact and say in a soft voice that she reserved only for the one in her arms: “Happy Valentine’s Day, my little meli.”

That’s right, it was Valentine’s Day. The first of Pyrrha being her girlfriend… HER girlfriend! Pyrrha Nikos was her girlfriend! Weiss broke into a radiant smile as warmth flooded her body and soul, followed by a giggle as Pyrrha’s own happy grin gave way to more kiss attacks.

Pyrrha couldn’t help herself. She had been planning for this day when it had settled in over the winter break that she was dating Weiss Schnee – Weiss Schnee was her girlfriend! – and though she knew Weiss might not care for elaborate performances of emotion, she still had to do something for the occasion. They had been together long enough for Pyrrha to determine that as long as it came from the heart, Weiss would love it. Of course, it also helped that Weiss tended to be in awe of her anyway, though it was refreshingly different from the way others tended to be in awe of the Invincible Girl.

Anyway, this was what led Pyrrha to keep her morning jog short: so she could surprise her princess and start off the day with cuddles and kisses.

Weiss had noticed Pyrrha’s casual athletic tire of t-shirt and shorts before the hug attack commenced. Even on the colder days in Vale, her big and tall athletic girlfriend could be seen running around campus in attire showing off more arm and leg than one might consider prudent. Then again, Pyrrha was from Argus and her insane metabolism meant she could handle a bit of chilly morning air.

“What, no shower first?” Weiss giggled as she made a very not convincing effort to break away from the kiss attacks. She had also noticed that Pyrrha was remarkably not very sweaty – more so than usual – meaning her jog must have been shorter.

“I didn’t need one today,” Pyrrha replied, sitting up and bringing Weiss with her. “I thought we could make this a more lazy day, just for the two of us.”

“Oh? And what did you have in mind?”

“Well, you can skip having to get dressed…” Pyrrha did like the cute nightgown that Weiss wore to bed, and she also wanted an excuse to not get dressed herself. Easier if she could drag her girlfriend along.

Weiss did pull back a little to register her disbelief. “Excuse me?”

“We’ll just stay indoors,” Pyrrha clarified, loosening her grip to keep one hand on Weiss’s back. “I even have two blankets ready to use.”

“Two?”

“In case one gets messy.”

“No fancy meal at a restaurant?”

“Nope. I have Ren making pancaaaakes,” Pyrrha said in a singsong voice that left Weiss’s heart fluttering a little. “And I also have some assorted food prepared for later.”

Weiss nodded in understanding. “So the spare blanket is for any food mess.”

“Correct.”

“And when are we having this fancy pancake breakfast?”

“Well…” Pyrrha scooped up Weiss and promptly stood, clearly ready to head down to the dorm kitchen.

Weiss let out a small squeak. “Wait! At least let me fix my hair!”

“Of course.” Pyrrha set her down and proceeded to brush her girlfriend’s hair, enjoying how happy Weiss looked in the mirror’s reflection. Once her off-center ponytail was in place, Weiss then allowed herself to be carried like a princess down to breakfast. She could smell the delicious scent of something sweet being made as they approached. And when they turned the corner…

“NORA!” Weiss exclaimed in dismay at the sight of their friend slouched in a chair with a mostly empty plate covered in bits of pancake residue, her expression one of someone who ate too much yet enjoyed every bite.

“Fear not, meli, for I anticipated this,” Pyrrha gave her a comforting smile before nodding to Ren.

“That was the buttermilk batch just for Nora,” Ren explained, a rare smile gracing his face as he flipped one last pancake onto a plate. Except this one looked different…

“This one is for you.” With a dollop of cream cheese frosting, some blueberries and white chocolate chips on top, Ren presented a stack of hot, fresh red velvet pancakes for Big Red and her Smol Princess as Pyrrha set Weiss down at her seat before taking her own right next to her.

The way Weiss looked at the super sweet concoction before her, she might as well have had stars in her eyes. Hands to her face, she looked like she was going to cry. It felt silly, but getting something from Pyrrha – even if she didn’t make this recipe herself – always felt like being the luckiest girl on Remnant. She came to when one big hand rested on her shoulder.

“I hope you like it.”

Before she chose her answer, Weiss cut a small piece and took a bite, allowing the warmth and softness to fill her senses along with the incredible amount of sugar. It was heavenly.

“Pyrrha,” Weiss spoke, not caring that she had a mouth full of food, “I love it.”

She continued to eat for a few bites before Pyrrha picked up her own fork and started digging in. Not that it was a problem as the pancakes were huge and there was more than enough for Weiss; but these were very rich and very sweet pancakes and Pyrrha…

“Won’t these throw you off your training regimen?” She meant to say something about how unhealthy they are, but that sounded too harsh and she didn’t want to undercut Pyrrha’s gift to her.

“I can afford one day to indulge myself,” Pyrrha replied, taking a big forkful before adding, and sounding rather funny with a mouthful of food, “What’s the fun in indulging my lover if I can’t share with her?”

“Awww.” Weiss gave her a quick hug in gratitude, then continued to eat.

“At least there’s milk,” Pyrrha pointed out, pouring a glass for Weiss and a much bigger glass for herself, then downing half of it in one go.

The red velvet pancakes were absolutely delicious and completely demolished by the time they were done. “Wow, Ren really has outdone himself,” Weiss remarked, feeling very full in the best way. “Did you say you had more food for us?”

“Yes, but we can worry about that later. It’s just an assortment of chocolate-covered strawberries and cherries as well as other fancy chocolates. Oh, and a platter of apples with peanut butter for dipping.”

Weiss couldn’t believe her ears. “Who are you and what have you done with my girlfriend?”

Pyrrha laughed. “Sorry! I just thought you deserved a day of sweet indulgence.”

“Hey, I’m not complaining!” Weiss stood to wrap her arms around Pyrrha’s broad shoulders. “I’m just surprised you would go to such trouble for me since you’re the best athlete at Beacon!”

Pyrrha gave a sly smirk. “Well, even star athletes deserve a day off to cut loose now and then. And before you ask, those treats are to accompany our movie marathon of romances and romcoms or anything else you’d like to see.”

Weiss rolled her eyes fondly. “You are being such a sap today.”

“You bring it out in me.” Pyrrha cupped her face to give her another kiss.

“Aww, my Big Red has a heart the size of her shield.” As Weiss hopped onto her lap, awaiting another princess carry to the couch for their movie marathon and more sweetness, she asked, “Is that one movie you like going to be on our list?”

“Love More Than Likely? It’s our first one.”

Weiss groaned dramatically, which abruptly turned into a shriek when Pyrrha playfully went “RAAAR!” and lightly nibbled her neck.

Once they got nestled on the couch with Pyrrha virtually wrapped around Weiss along with the first blanket, the princess made one request. “I want those red velvet pancakes for my birthday, and if you could make them…”

Pyrrha left another kiss. “Anything for you, meli.”
