Beemons Castes
Beemons a hive-species with a single Queen Mother that acts as the Origin of all other beemons; all demons turned via the Mother's blood becomes either a Moon or a Worker. Workers, with enough excess blood, can also metamorphosize into a Moon. It has been found those with a breathing-style have a higher chance of becoming a Moon than a Worker. The Queen is the only known beemon with a stinger, which appears to be used in procreation via transformation purposes.
Moons act similar to super majors in an ant colony, guarding the Nursery, Queen, and acting as heavy hitters should they be called upon. The highest ranking Moons are the ones who care for Grubs and Larva, and very rarely leave the Hive.
Workers are the average beemon within the Hive [Infinity Castle] with power and appearance varying wildly. They travel from the Hive in groups, being the ones to collect food and new hive members in most of the cases in raids. Otherwise they live and sleep within the Hive, usually in piles of sub-family groups, or with those they shared the Nursery with as grubs.
Drones [Not Pictured] are beemons turned by other demons, making them a step removed from a direct hivemind link to the Mother. They are mostly used as fodder, and only partially look like beemons as their full transformation is slower. These are the ones most commonly encountered by Slayers and the average person, and are not allowed access to the Hive location.
If a Drone can survive for a full year and finish the transformation, they are then brought to the Hive to be given Blood and fully welcomed into the Hivemind. The only exception is if a drone is turning into a Moon, in which case they are immediately brought to the Hive. (For example, Daki & Gyutaro)
Other Terms Used:
- Pupa: A human mid-turning or just been fed Nectar
- Larva: Newly-turned demons that require large amounts of food & sleep
- Nymph: A turned child who is mentally & physically still a child
- Grub: A turned child who can still grow, albeit slower than a human
Beemons can only eat human flesh, bone, blood, water, and sugar. They will commonly make a meat honey to allow this to keep for longer periods. Some individuals will make 'candies' for travel purposes as well, while others will carry containers or gourds of the Nectar to feed on. A majority is saved for winter, when beemons experience something similar to torpor, most staying within the Hive after a short burst of high activity in the Autumn.
All beemons, once transformed, are completely sterile, only able to make more of themselves via abducting and turning others. While reproductive parts may appear functional, they will not result in offspring. The only known way for a demon to have a child is to have had one before the transformation.
