Work Text:
“You’ll catch a cold, you idiot.” Kamimura murmured as they walked through the bustling crowds.
It was a very chilly January, and Kamimura was not amused. It didn't help that Hasegawa was on his ass about some ‘stay at home, it's too cold’ bullshit. They were out on their usual route for weekly groceries; he could let the taller man go alone, it's just that Kamimura wouldn’t trust the guy with groceries if his life depended on it.
He’d once sent him alone to buy the groceries— having important evidence he needed to process at work, he was simply too tired to do a grocery run that evening. The man came home with every brand of laundry detergent that existed because ‘I didn’t know which one you liked the most, Kazutoshi!’
“I’m not going to, I’m more worried about you.” Ken said, annoyingly concerned.
“Ken, I look like a fucking pile of coats. You didn’t have to add your coat to it!” Kamimura huffed, trying his best not to sniffle, lest Hasegawa take off another layer of clothing and put it on him.
“B-But You look so cold, Kazutoshi! I can’t help it. Your face is so red.” Hasegawa whined, grabbing the other’s face in his gloved hands.
“Maybe it's because I’m feeling too fucking hot because of the hundred fucking coats I have on.” He said, puffing his cheeks up, choosing to ignore the shiver that ran up his body every few seconds.
Hasegawa chuckled, "At least then I’d know you’re not cold.” He said, looking at him softly.
“Ken, it's not like Shibuya has some sort of negative hundred-degree weather. Osaka had almost the exact same fucking weather, and I never froze to death back then.” Kamimura stated, jabbing his finger on the other's chest.
“B-But I can't help it! I don't want you to fall sick, Kazutoshi.” He whined. Kamimura looked at him a little longer before gritting his teeth and looking away.
“Tch. Let’s just fucking go, Ken. The sooner we’re done, the better.” He walked ahead, grabbing the taller’s hand and attempting to drag him.
“Kazutoshi, your hands are freezing.” Hasegawa nagged, standing still.
“You can feel that through your fucking gloves?” Kamimura squinted.
“I-” Hasegawa started.
Kamimura glared at the brunet, dropping his hand. “If you don’t want to hold my hand, just fucking say it.” He grumbled, already missing the warmth of his boyfriend's hand.
“W-Wait, That’s not what I meant!” Hasegawa said, walking faster, the grocery trolley taking the brunt of the damage with each step.
“Seriously, Ken? You ate through the fucking box again?” Kamimura said once they reached the confectionery aisle, list in hand. They were in their usual supermarket, buying the umpteenth item on their weekly shopping list.
“I-It wasn’t me, Mao ate them when she came over!” Hasegawa protested, sweating and avoiding his gaze.
“How about you stop blaming shit on your sister?” He warned.
“She did!” Hasegawa wasn't budging on that. Guess he really wanted that chocolate.
“We bought this last week, Ken. Mao came over two weeks ago.” He accused, scrunching his face up.
“She ate them when she came over to help me set up-” Hasegawa started, before the colour drained from his cheeks. He composed himself and nervously laughed. “I-I ate them, yeah.”
Now what the fuck was that about? He decided to ignore it in light of the fact that Hasegawa was just weird like that. Kamimura made a hmph sound before turning around.
“...No chocolates?” The taller pouted.
“No chocolates.” He said sternly.
“And don't throw my favourite Hasegawa under the bus again.” He added, walking past the sulking man.
“Wha- Kazutoshi!” He complained dramatically. Kamimura let out a soft chuckle at the whine. He just hoped Hasegawa would partially forget about this before they reach the soup sections.
“How the fuck are we out of just about everything?” Kamimura complained while Hasegawa grabbed the necessary items from the top shelf.
“Ruiko ate it all when she came over.” Hasegawa said, putting the rice in their cart.
“Well, at least you're not lying this time.” He said sarcastically as he grabbed some noodles from the bottom shelf.
“R-Right.” Hasegawa seemed to be sweating a little too much for such cold weather.
“Hey Ken?” Kamimura said, overly sweet.
“Y-Yeah, honey?” He asked, box of morning cereal in hand.
Kamimura got up, crossing his arms before looking up at the brunet.
“Why the fuck are you acting like you're having an affair?”
“...” Hasegawa's eyes widened, beads of sweat falling down his face as his hands dropped to his sides.
“...” Kamimura was just joking around; he knew Ken would never even think of doing anything like that. But holy shit, was he acting suspicious.
“...”
“Ken!” Kamimura screamed, lightly.
“I'm not!” Ken said, raising his hands up.
“Then stop acting like it! You have a fucking tongue, use it when you're accused of sleeping around.” Kamimura sighed, massaging his temples.
“S-Sorry! It's just- I have a lot on my mind these days.” He stated, putting the groceries in the cart.
“Like what?” Kamimura blinked.
“N-Nothing important! Just- work related.” He supplied, quite possibly digging his own grave.
“Oh? Mister Never-Lost-A-Fucking-Quiz-Show-Guy has something to worry about? Mister I-Have-A-Couple-Billion-Fucking-Yen-In-My-Bank-Account-Guy?” Kamimura questioned, eyebrows raised.
“I- Kazutoshi, I promise it's nothing l-like that. I-I wouldn't- do that. Ever.” Hasegawa blurted, maybe a bit scared. “I mean, I don't even look at anyone except-”
“Relax, Ken. I was just joking around.” Kamimura said, softening up a little.
“R-Right.” He said, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in.
They moved through the aisle, grabbing everything they might need for the week, and the possibility of more of their high school friends suddenly showing up.
“Oh, I need to grab some stuff actually.” Hasegawa said, reaching up for something.
“Hm? You?” Kamimura asked, eyes wide with surprise.
“Don't act so surprised, I wanna do something nice for you!”
“As in, you'll cook?” Kamimura asked incredulously.
“Yeah?”
“I’d rather get tortured to death.” He muttered.
“Shush, I-I can cook.” Hasegawa said, chuckling.
Kamimura raised his eyebrows at that. Hasegawa had attempted many times to cook, failing miserably each time.
“The last time I let you in the kitchen, you burned my fucking hair.” He glared, stroking his bangs carefully.
“That was a mistake! Mai actually- I- You’ll see!” Ken said, stumbling over his words.
“Uh, right.” He said, a little sceptical. ”Well, I’m gonna go buy a lot of bleach, alright?” Kamimura smirked, leaving.
“I-I’ll be right there!” He shouted after him.
Stumbling over to wherever his Kazutoshi-senses took him, Hasegawa found the shorter man grabbing a bunch of bleach, like he’d said.
Hasegawa just followed the shorter man around as he grabbed whatever he thought was fit, handing it to him.
“I get why Rui and Mai and Shigeki came over.” He kneeled, grabbing a vial with a danger warning, “But why the fuck are Nakamigawa and Takeshi coming over?” He asks casually, scanning the bottle of rat poison.
“I-I- don't be mad-” Hasegawa gulped.
“Why would I be mad, Ken?” He asked innocently, shaking the bottle.
“I sort of invited Nakamigawa over? And Takeshi too, since they live together.” He said, nervously laughing.
“Any reason?” He asked, looking up at him.
“J-Just maintaining relationships.” He managed to say after a while.
“I see.” Kamimura nodded, adding the vial to his cart.
“W-Why are you getting rat poison?” Hasegawa gulped.
“...Might come in handy later.” He smiled at him, brushing off imaginary dirt from his pile of coats.
Hasegawa decided not to attempt to explain any further. He'll just keep an eye on the kitchen whenever Nakamigawa comes over; he'd rather not deal with covering up a murder again.
He'll find out the reason soon enough, anyway.
“Ugh, we gotta go buy vegetables from the market after this.” Kamimura groaned.
“We can skip it, if you want.” Hasegawa said, trying to earn brownie points.
“That's not gonna fucking work, Ken. We need vegetables.” Kamimura said, flatly. ”It's just so fucking cold.” He mumbled.
“I thought you weren’t cold.” Hasegawa pointed out.
“What the fuck do you think?” He said, sniffling.
“Do you want my swea-”
“No.” Kamimura warned.
“I’m not that cold, Kazutoshi. I can just-”
“You ever wondered why I bought all that bleach?” Kamimura asked, resting one elbow in his palm, gesturing with the other hand.
“I-I’m getting murdered for worrying about my boyfriend?” Hasegawa asked, acting all offended.
“Well, you’re gonna get yourself killed anyway. Might as well do it by my own hands.” Kamimura said, smirking at him.
“Oh, right. But I think you should wait for a bit? That would be pretty beneficial for you; you'd be a billionaire.” Hasegawa said, chuckling.
“Pff- Ken, I’m not getting all that unless-” Kamimura stopped dead in his tracks, whipping his head to look back at the brunet with disbelief.
“W-What?” Hasegawa asked, confusion written all over his face.
“Um. Nothing." He muttered, face burning. He tried walking a bit further. Tried, because the moment he started, he felt his knees go weak, his vision blurring all of a sudden.
“Ken? I'm not-” He said, barely audible. The taller one immediately rushed to his side.
He gently eased the younger down to sit on the floor, uncapping a bottle of mineral water, keeping it in his hand for when needed.
“I've got you.” Hasegawa whispered, stroking his hair as the other rested on his shoulder.
They sat there for a while, Hasegawa muttering a few reassurances, occasionally telling him about some new fun fact he'd read about that week.
After a few seconds, Kamimura shifted a little, slowly gaining control again.
He looked up at Hasegawa groggily, simply staring for a while with half-lidded eyes, before he started to laugh. He adjusted himself until his face was hidden in the brunet’s collar, the taller’s arm wrapped around his shoulders.
“Kazutoshi?” He sounded confused. He’d be too, if his boyfriend had a cataplexy episode a couple minutes ago and then started laughing his ass off— or, well, as hard as he can without passing out again on the floor.
He managed to stop after a few moments. Moving his head, he turned his gaze towards the brunet.
“A-Any more guests this week, Ken?” He asked, voice still a bit hoarse. He couldn’t help the smile forming on his face.
“No, no. You don't have to worry about that until I-”, he paused, “F-For a while.” He corrected himself, coughing.
Kamimura stayed silent for a bit, simply observing the brunet. His gaze softened as he grinned at the latter, feeling giddy. He wouldn't be surprised if he passed out again.
“You’re so stupid.” he said affectionately, kissing the taller's cheek. Hasegawa turned red, stumbling over his words. You’d think seven years together would change a man.
“I still think we should’ve just gotten it fucking over with.” Kamimura grumbled, taking off at least a hundred coats before sitting down on the sofa. They had to cut their trip short due to Hasegawa's unrelenting insistence that Kamimura should rest. They hadn’t even managed to reach the fucking soup.
“You should rest, Kazutoshi. We bought most of the important items.” Hasegawa said, placing the bags on the table.
“Yeah, yeah. You go unpack or whatever. ” He said, getting up and stretching his back, not wanting a repeat of their conversation (one-sided berating (read: Hasegawa gently telling him to rest more)) after his episode.
“A-Are you sure? I can join-”
“Ken.” He warned.
“R-Right.” Hasegawa muttered sadly.
Kamimura sighed as he walked over, wrapping his arms around the taller’s neck, whose hands immediately came to rest on his lower back, before giving him a quick peck on the lips.
“Later, Hasegawa.” He smiled against his lips.
“C’mon, I promise I’ll unpack later-” Hasegawa whined.
“Ken, I’m gonna fucking kill you.” Kamimura interrupted, smile turning into a snarl.
“You know, it really isn’t gonna look good for you when my body’s found if you keep saying stuff like that.” Hasegawa mused, letting out a small laugh.
“Who said anyone will be able to find you?” He chuckled, looking smug.
The two laughed softly underneath the dim lighting of the chandelier, staying like that for a few moments.
“Well maybe, instead of unpacking, I should make use of my limited time on Earth and spend it with you.” Hasegawa suggested, running his hand down his back.
Kamimura tsk’ed and swatted the hand away, “Don’t be so impatient, Ken. We basically have forever ahead of us, right?” Kamimura smirked, getting closer. Their lips were practically touching at that point.
The brunet let out a strangled noise, blushing and looking away. Coughing a little, he slowly agreed with the shorter man. Hasegawa was bad at keeping secrets.
Kamimura kissed him again, a little longer this time.
“I love you, Ken.” He smiled at the brunet one more time before heading for their bedroom.
“I-I- love you too!” He shouted after him.
Hasegawa stood there for a while, quietly watching until the bedroom door closed. He turned around after a while, looking at the table. He slowly began unpacking, taking out the truckload of stuff they bought. Most of it was for cooking, a good portion of it being what he had bought.
He kept his own items in a separate, higher shelf, while keeping the rest of the items in the younger’s usual shelves. He got to the second bag— filled with bleach bottles. Carefully taking out each bottle, his hand hit a small vial amongst them. Taking it out, he huffed out a fond sigh.
The rat poison. He should probably discard that, he thought, placing it further away from the pile.
He reached the bottom of the bag, feeling around to check if he'd missed anything. It was then that his hand hit something. Looking in, he breathed out a laugh, a smile breaking onto his face, and his chest aching in the dumbest way.
It was the box of chocolates.
