Chapter Text
Last you saw your husband was through the haze of sleep. You’d just been woken up by the shifting of the bed as he got up. He needed to get ready for work.
Stretching, you rolled to face his way. You decided to watch him this morning. You admired his body as he stripped down, revealing the skinnyfat build you always loved. He then pulled on his shirt and pants.
He gave you a kiss atop your head before leaving, as he always did.
You looked at the time. 7:50. You didn’t envy him in the slightest. You were glad to work from home.
You could hear him make himself a quick breakfast before leaving out the front door. Sometimes you wished you had enough energy in the morning to make you both breakfast before he left. Not everything can be so perfect, though.
It was 10:15 when you were brought out of your sleepiness by a growling stomach. Guess it was time to get ready for the day. A morning shower should wake you up.
By 11:30, you were in the kitchen making breakfast. You had the radio on, as you always did in the morning. You wanted to catch the news and give your mind the chance to fully wake up.
That’s when you heard about the sun. How an unexpectedly powerful emission of energy occurred. Everyone was advised to stay indoors due to the high levels of heat. You wondered how long this would last. Hopefully your husband will be able to come home from work on time.
You kept checking in on the news as you worked throughout the day. People were advised to leave work late, when the sun was down. You decided to call your husband’s work when you knew he was on break. You just wanted to make sure he knew to leave after sundown and to stay safe. The city wasn’t exactly the safest place at night. He just laughed at your concern, and told you that he’ll be fine.
You hoped so. Maybe it was just your everpresent anxiety, but you felt strange. Like something bad was going to happen. You had to tell yourself that everything will be fine, he will get home safe.
Your worry turned into fear when he never returned that night, and never got a call. You stayed up all night, hoping he was safe and just decided to stay at work or with a colleague overnight.
You became worried sick when you called his work at 9am on the dot and they answered saying he left work after sunset last night. He mentioned that he was going to catch the bus, and that thankfully they ran that late.
You called the police after to report him missing. The operator told you they’ve been getting multiple calls about people going missing. You were shocked to hear that. Your heart was starting to hurt.
Something weird was going on. You watched the news obsessively, sleeping on the couch in order to keep watch of it. You were forced awake by the blaring of the EAS alarm. Looking up, you were alerted to there being an unusual phenomenon, and to stay inside. You expected it to be about the sun, but the news kicked back on and a reporter clarified there was a new threat. Something they colloquially called Visitors.
You sat up on the couch, listening as these so-called Visitors were described. Something human-like, but not quite. They were dangerous.
You were appalled. Your life was becoming a horror movie, one you desperately wished you could wake up from. But it was real, and you had to cope with it somehow, despite the aching you felt.
