Chapter Text
It starts as a normal Wednesday morning, it being a rest day letting him sleep in and making it so that he's not the first one to leave. His mom passes him as he's eating breakfast, clearly just about to leave, when she pauses.
"You probably missed it since you got home late last night, but Markus got accepted by a team. We're moving there with him." And before Crille has the chance to ask any questions she's gone.
Moving? Where? Does that mean I have to move too? What about my skating career? Is there even a figure skating club there? Wait... I wasn't late last night. I was home way before 9... Did they change my curfew without telling me again?
When he arrives at school his mind has shifted its focus to forming a plan on what he needs to do, starting with telling his skating partner. It doesn't take long to find her as she’s standing outside their classroom talking with her girlfriend.
"Good morning!" They both greet him.
"Good morning. Mimi, would you mind if I talk to Nina real quick?"
"Of course. Talk to you later." Mimi answers, giving Nina a kiss on the cheek before walking away.
"If it's about you hating Mimi, I don't want to hear it." Nina says before Crille can get a word out.
"I don't hate her, there's just something about her that rubs me the wrong way. Anyway, that's not what I wanted to tell you. Mom told me that Markus got accepted by a team and that we're moving with him."
"So you're leaving Helsinki?"
"I don't know. Mom didn't give me a chance to ask questions. I don't even know what team Markus is joining." He answers honestly.
"How long have you known?"
"Since breakfast. Thought it was best to tell you as soon as I could since it might affect you too."
"Thanks for telling me." Nina tells him before joining her girlfriend again.
He gets an answer to one of his many questions by the end of his school day, his brother having answered his message wondering what club accepted him, giving him a place. Already making his way towards the ice rink he trains at, he comes to the conclusion that it's probably easier to ask his coach if there's a figure skating club in Vörå or not.
"Oh, hi Crille. Didn't expect to see you today." Erika greets him as he comes up to her.
"Well there are a few things that have come up that I like to talk to you about."
"I understand. Should we take it at the office?" Crille nods in response.
Once in the office Crille takes a deep breath before explaining everything to his coach.
"Vörå? The KAJ skating club is located there. They will definitely help you if you have to move."
"Are you sure?"
"Don't worry, I know the founders. They will for sure do what they can to help you."
Like usual when he doesn't have practice in the evening Crille is the one cooking dinner, his parents excusing it as giving him experience for when he's an adult. In reality he knows it's just an excuse to be at his brother's practice, despite Markus not wanting them there. At least his practice doesn't end too late so dinner doesn't end up being too late either.
As his parents sit down by the table and start gushing about his brother and how well he did at practice despite being super busy with his studies, Crille is reminded of why he doesn't mind eating by himself. Unfortunately it's the only time he will be able to ask his parents anything, so he has to endure it if he wants any answers.
"Mom told me we're moving with Markus to where his new team is. Can we ask if I can stay with aunt Sara? You know... So that I can continue skating."
"No. We're all moving together. No exceptions." His dad tells him, voice final.
"We're family and family stays together. Don't you want to support your brother?" His mom asks him in the way he knows is an attempt to guilt trip him.
"Of course I do, but I also have to think about my skating career and moving wouldn't only make it harder for me, but also force Nina to find another partner."
"I'm sure she can find a new one in no time." His mom says before changing the topic, the matter already settled in her head.
He messages Nina when he's back in his room, telling her what his parents told him.
'Yeah, I can probably find a new partner relatively quickly, but what about you? You're not exactly moving to a big city, now are you?'
'I doubt they even know if there's a figure skating club there or not. Luckily for me there is.'
'So you looked it up then.'
'Didn't have to. Went by the rink after school to inform Erika, apparently she knows the founders.'
'Maybe she can help you contact them.'
'I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. I have to tell her that I have to move anyway.'
Erika doesn't just help Crille contact the skating club in Vörå, she contracts them for him, asking him for approval to use his contract information so that they can contact him. The next day he gets a mail from the KAJ skating club saying that he's welcomed and that they happen to have a female ice dancer in need of a new partner. Suddenly moving doesn't sound as catastrophic as it didn't at first, though it doesn't change the fact that he will have to say goodbye to his friends.
