"You've got some foreign material in your abdomen. I've just gotta get it out then you'll be fine."
"You know that for sure?" John asked. Gale didn't answer. "You know what it is?" he asked again. Once again Gale didn't answer. John leant his head back, letting out a long out breath.
"Fuck me," he said, screwing his eyes shut. "Is it gonna hurt?" There was another moment of awful silence as Gale opened his mouth but found himself unable to speak.
"Jesus Christ," John bit out, losing composure as Gale wiped iodine over his exposed stomach. "Gale. Just this once. Lie to me, please."
