"Toothless!" Hiccup shouted, stumbling over the heavy snowfall surrounding him.
He'd been separated from Toothless, and taken a hit to the head in the crash. He was disoriented, but he knew he needed to get to Toothless, or to help Toothless find him. Neither of them were built for this level of cold, though Toothless would fair much better than him.
"Toothless!"
Hiccup was feeling more and more confused as time went on. He was having trouble making decisions, even ones as simple as simply where to step next, and his foot was so frozen he couldn't feel it anymore, and his hands weren't fairing much better, despite him holding them tightly against himself. He knew that wasn't a good sign, but he had to keep going.
He had to keep going.
Had to keep going... for what? What was he looking for again? Hiccup paused, swaying dangerously as he stood. He was looking for... he was...
Then, he heard it.
A sound he could never forget, no matter how dazed or confused he was. Toothless, calling out for him!
"Tooth... Toothless!" His voice was weak, raspy. He stumbled towards the noise, supporting himself on the snow covered trees.
"Toothless! I'm- I'm here, I'm-"
He tripped, and fell face first into the snow before he could stop himself. He sluggishly got his arms under him, and tried to push himself upwards but his arms gave out beneath him and he collapsed back into the snow.
He didn't even feel cold anymore. He didn't feel like anything.
"Tooth...less..."
He closed his eyes.
Hiccup opened his eyes, blinking at the darkness filling his vision. He felt sore all over, but warm. Somehow, he was alive, but why was it so dark?
He shifted his head, and whatever wonderfully warm thing he was pressed up against moved, and suddenly there was light.
"Toothless," Hiccup sighed in relief, resting his head back down. Toothless rumbled softly, but happily at the sight of his rider's consciousness. He'd been worried, too worried, when he'd found his boy unconscious and cold to the touch, but it paid to have an internal fire that kept your body warm even in cold temperatures. He'd been lucky to find a cave that he could use to protect them both from the snow, and the wind.
This wouldn't be the first time, nor the last, that Hiccup slept cocooned in Toothless's wings, but it had saved his life this time, and hopefully all his fingers and toes. His stump was irritated, too, but it would recover. They both would.
Toothless pulled Hiccup close, and together, nice and warm, they waited for the riders to find them. Stormfly's nose was more than powerful enough for this.
All they needed for now was rest.
All they needed was eachother.
