Claire had just taken a large bite of her raspberry scone when Leon swung the door open to their bedroom and stepped out, a green shirt on his torso and a devious smile on his face.
“Good morning, Claire,” he said loudly as his girlfriend tried to down the scone without choking. “And Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” It was then that he raised up one hand and made a pinching motion with his fingers.
Still struggling with her tasty pastry, Claire pointed her finger at her earrings with great emphasis.
“Those tiny green stones don’t count,” Leon said as he advanced on her.
Claire glared at him then shook her head, dropping her scone back onto the plate and reaching for the hem of her shirt. Leon came to a rather abrupt stop as she pulled her shirt up… and exposed her brand new green bra.
Before Leon could snap himself out of it, Claire finally swallowed the pastry and said, “Checkmate, bitch.”
He stared at her.
“So… when did you get that?” he asked, lowering his hand as she lowered her shirt.
“Last weekend. Was going to surprise you with it tonight.”
“Oh. Oops,” Leon said as he plopped down next to her. “Wait, did you call me a bitch?”
“You said my earrings didn’t count,” Claire laughed. “I took that personally.”
“Uh huh…” Leon looked at her scone. “Is that raspberry?”
“Yeah it-”
But before she could finish, Leon had swiped the remainder of the scone and ran.
