Work Text:

There's a Jedi in Mij's medical center.

Mij knows he should do something. Should alert security, should alert Jango.

He should reach for his blaster.

Mij doesn't do any of those things. He doesn't think he can.

There's a Jedi in his medical center, and she hasn't aged a day.

"Mij," Her voice curls around his name, familiar in all the ways it shouldn't be and in all the ways that hurt. Familiar, despite all the decades between them. "What is this?"

She doesn't sound angry.

Mij doesn't think there's ever been a time she was angry.

She should be.

Her shadows aren't with her, and Mij is much less worried about that than he knows he should be. They could be anywhere on Kamino, bringing the chaos that always follows them. Mij wonders which one will happen upon Jango and how much destruction they will cause.

It'll probably be the youngest. Because if anyone would be the most heartbroken over the man Jango had become, it would be Jon.

He had made so many promises to Jaster in their final months together. Mij hopes the kid doesn't blame himself for Jango's actions.

"Mij," there's a sense of urgency in her voice now. Her soft gray eyes are a welcoming sight after years of sterile white halls. Her hands are gentle on his cheeks, comforting. A comfort he doesn't deserve. "Mij, come back to me."

He hasn't gone anywhere. He's still on Kamino, trapped in the hellscape he chose when he decided to follow the lost Mand'alor's call. Dar'manda.

"No. You are not dar'manda." Her voice is firm in a way he so rarely ever heard before.

Oh, Ka'ra, he has missed her.

Mij brows forward, wrapping his arms around her small frame as he buries his face in her honey-brown hair. She folds against him, a practiced motion between them. Something warm flutters across his mind, and he knows it's her. He knows the feeling of her Force for all that he’s as force-sensitive as a rock.

A very pretty rock, her voice echoes through his thoughts, and he laughs, desperately hoping she doesn't point out how much it sounds like a sob.

Fay is gentle, and she is kind. And she doesn't say a word.

Notes:

Mandalorian Translation
Dar'manda - a state of not being Mandalorian - not an outsider, but one who has lost his heritage, and so his identity and his soul
Ka'ra - stars as the ruling council of fallen kings
