Chapter Text
Walking through LaGuardia airport was a welcome sight for you because you had just finished your annual NYC weekend trip with your Dad. (Your Dad had flown out a day earlier to get home to your Mom.) You had a wonderful weekend and opted to walk to the airport from your Airbnb nearby. It was a short twenty minute walk and the weather was great, not too windy or cold this spring day. You decided to wear your most comfy sweatpants and favorite I Love Sleep shirt with the NYC maroon hoodie you bought from the airport last time over it zipped up. No makeup today as you were traveling except for using your brow pencil to fill in your brows and tinted lip balm that made your lips moisturized.
As you made your way into the beautiful lobby area past the shops and into the food court area with plenty of time to spare because you left for the airport early, you took your favorite spot in the steps facing the water fountain show and waited for the “New York New York” song to play. Once it started, you found yourself singing along softly to the lyrics not caring who heard.
Then, at the end of the song, you heard the guy next to you in blue jeans, t-shirt and a baseball cap with a face mask covering most of his face next to you speak. Your heart dropped because you would recognize that voice anywhere. “You have a great voice,” he complimented you and a blush came to your cheeks as you turned to look at him. His beautiful face was mostly hidden by the face mask but you could make out his strong jaw line and those piercing blue eyes.
“Thank you…Austin,” you said hoping he didn’t freak out upon you saying his name. His eyes register that you must recognize him by his voice and his face breaks into a smile behind the mask he’s wearing.
“You know who I am, don’t you?” He whispers inching closer to you casually so you’re now inches apart.
“Yes, Mr. Butler,” you say, your heart beating a million miles in your chest. Holy shit, I’m talking to Austin Butler!
“Please, just call me Austin. No need for formalities. And your name is?” He said looking at you with adoration.
“[Y/N], my name is [Y/N],” you say, barely able to speak so you try some deep breaths hoping Austin doesn’t mind. You’re not even wearing a mask since they lifted the mandate.
“Are you okay?” He asks, noticing your breathing has gotten deeper and more rapid.
“Yeah, I’m sorry. I just feel like I must be dreaming or something. I guess my anxiety is kicking in,” you admit, hoping he doesn’t think you’re a total loser for admitting that. He makes you feel at ease like you could tell him anything. Then, he does something you didn’t expect, he touches your hand that’s resting on the step between you both and now you know your heart is really beating fast. It skips a beat as he lowers his mask revealing his gorgeous face.
“It’s okay, you’re not dreaming. I bet you know me from THE film. I see this a lot actually,” he tells you referring to Elvis of course, the film that made him a star and reach the height of his fame. “Well, yes but I used to watch The Carrie Diaries. I was a big Sebastian and Carrie fan,” you admitted, looking down at his hand on yours where he’s started tracing circles over your thumb. Oh my God, is this real life?!
“Wow, thank you. I loved working on that show,” he says, impressed and appreciative of your comments. “I was sad when it ended.”
“Me too!” You say a little too loudly and get a couple glances thrown your way and Austin draws even closer to you, his head down to not raise attention. When you get excited, you tend to raise your voice loudly so you know you have to go back to whispering. “Sorry, I get really excited about my favorite shows. I was really sad it had to end too. Heartbreaking ending for Sebastian and Carrie.”
“I was sad about that, too. So what else do you know me from?”
“Ummm, that’s kind of it. I didn’t follow your career until I saw you in Elvis,” you made sure to whisper this time and hope he was okay with that. “Incredible job on that. You clearly deserve all those awards.”
“Thank you, I am still so in awe of winning anything and here I was thinking you were a super stan or something,” he said, now deciding to hold your hand in his, while internally you were dying of happiness and he was calming you down.
You start chuckling, “You know that term? Wow. I’m not, more of a casual fan I guess. But impressed with you and what I’ve heard about you.” You can’t believe he doesn’t think you’re some sort of freak and he’s holding your hand. Why is he holding my hand? I’m not his type. Isn’t he dating a supermodel?
“Well, now you really have peaked my interest. What have you heard about me?”
A flush comes to your cheeks and you bite your lower lip looking down. “That you’re kind and humble and are amazing to your fans.” You weren't about to say you’ve seen countless interviews of his on YouTube and comments online of fan experiences. Way too many hours of your time.
“That’s all very true. I would really like to hear more about you though. What do you like to sing?” He said looking into your eyes like he was looking into your soul and hanging on your every word…Your eyes had looked back at him now and you were in awe of how he genuinely seemed interested in you.
At that point, you knew you would lose your Jesus and drop your panties for this man. He had you captured. “Pop, top 40, some oldies, lot of Taylor Swift and contemporary christian music.” You might as well be honest you thought no matter what Austin thought, you had to be true to yourself.
“You like that Jesus music huh?” He says with a grin and you’re not quite sure if he’s cool with that or not.
“Yeah, I do. Jesus is a big part of who I am actually. I love worship music, it’s how I connect with the Holy Spirit.” You admit because your faith is important to you.
“I love that, having a strong faith has been a part of my life much like it was for Elvis and I enjoy listening to some of that Jesus music too.” He genuinely smiles at you and you find it extremely charming.
“I think I read that somewhere about Elvis and that’s nice to know about you, too. Do you have a favorite worship song?” You ask him, wondering if he really listens to Jesus music or he’s just playing you.
“I do actually, I’m a big fan of the classics like Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art, but I also love Hillsong United. How about you?”
“I respect the classics but am definitely more into contemporary songs like How Can It Be and I Speak Jesus.”
“How Can It Be, that’s the one by Lauren Daigle right? I love her songs, she’s really crossed over to the mainstream a bit hasn’t she?” You nod, liking that he knows that and that he still hasn’t let go of your hand.
“Yes, I’m really happy for her success. I’ve seen her a couple times in concert. She’s really good. I listen to her songs a lot.”
“I've been wanting to see her shows but I’m always so busy working…” he said and then said something that took you by surprise. “I like a girl that has a relationship with Jesus. You strike me as someone who does, I like that.” He lifted your right hand and fingered the ring on your finger. It had a small heart around a tiny Jesus cross with two little cubic zirconias next to it. Austin didn’t know this was but it was your purity ring. “I like the ring, it looks good on you.” He smiles at you, the most enchanting smile you’ve ever seen.
You were finding it hard to keep your head on straight. This man had an effect on you like no one ever had. You chalked it up to the fact you hadn’t been this intimate with a man in years. That must be it. If you even kissed this man, it would be over for you.
I think you would look good on me, too, you can’t help but think to yourself. Why did you feel like this man was looking at you like he was in love with you already? He had this enchanting presence about him that made you want to tell him your heart's desires.
“Thank you, I appreciate that, do you have a relationship with Jesus?” You really wanted to know the answer to that question but…
A little alarm beeping comes from Austin’s phone and he takes his free hand to get his cellphone out, not releasing your hand just yet. “Sorry, that’s my reminder for the private lounge room I booked…”
You look sad, realizing your time with Austin is coming to an end but then he surprises you. “Would you like to join me? I have it booked for an hour. If you have the time, of course.”
Holy shit, was he really asking me that?! You thought to yourself. But then you had a question. “I would love to, but are you sure your girlfriend won’t mind?” You whisper, feeling a certain type of way about that.
“We broke up a couple weeks ago. It’s something I hope you don’t mind keeping secret if you’re okay with it,” he said, gazing at you like he was begging for you to say yes. “Yes of course, let’s go,” You say with a smile and Austin puts his mask back on then reaches out his hands, helping you up from the step.
Mentally, you prepare yourself to have some sense of self control but who are you kidding? You were about to go be alone in a room with Austin Butler!
