Chapter Text
Edward felt like Scar had placed his hand to the ground and crumbled his world out from underneath him.
Al, his brother , Al was lying in pieces on the ground.
Ed jumped up trying to think as shock registered in Scar’s eyes. Edward felt rage so potent all other emotions were gone and all Ed was, was here, and now, and furious.
“He’s hollow!” Scars glasses glinted, catching rain drops imitating an emotion. Emotions Al couldn’t show. Emotions that this man couldn’t have because he had just killed Al.
Ed was distinctly reminded of someone else whose glasses glinted in the imitation of care.
Ed didn’t even howl as he charged the other alchemist. Scar reached out to grab for Edward, but Ed pivoted, clapped, and plunged his hands downwards.
The last of Scar Edward saw was his glasses glinting as he was thrown upward with a spike of pavement embedded in his jaw.
Ed fell to Al’s side. He quickly sorted through the pieces of armor that he couldn’t make himself call his brother, until he found it. The blood seal.
The seal was cracked down the middle. Edward let out a long breath that when it ended he was disappointed that it wasn’t his last. He pulled the pieces of the armor close to his chest, the metal poking his face and arms, drawing blood.
Ed had to think. Al couldn’t be dead. That bastard hadn’t just attacked them for no reason and hurt Al. Who would hurt Al? Al was the best person in the world, he was the sweetest, kindest, best person in the whole world.
If anyone should be lying in pieces on the floor right now it should be Ed, not Al. If any god existed Ed would have been the one in the armor in the first place. If there was any god out there Al would have a better brother who would do something instead of killing his killer and sobbing into the pieces of metal he had put you into; thinking of nothing, but himself.
Ed shook so hard that the metal in his arms started to sound like Al.
Because it was Al.
Ed swallowed as hard as he could. There were voices yelling something nearby, but Ed couldn’t bring himself to look up. Because if Ed looked up, and Mustang were there, then he would look at Ed, and he would look at Al and make that same face he had made at Edward about Nina.
Then Al would be dead and Ed couldn’t… Ed wouldn’t be able to go on after that. Infact Ed had probably just killed someone, frankly he didn’t deserve to go on when Al didn’t.
Ed blinked rapidly as blood from a scratch on his head trickled into his eyes. The remains of the armor came into his focus.
Ed didn’t deserve to live while Al didn’t. He couldn’t even save Nina, what use was he? He couldn’t even control himself to not kill someone while Al was gone for a second!
Ed dipped his fingers into the blood pooling in his brows and started to draw a circle. He heard someone shout behind him, it sounded like Hawkeye, but it was too late.
Edward touched the circle and his vision faded to black.
