Chapter Text
When Danny woke up that morning, it was just a typical day to him. He had awoken several times during the night to deal with ghosts, and while none of them were too difficult to deal with on a regular day, sleep deprivation made the fights a real bitch. But, no matter how tired he was, he still had school to go to, and with his abysmal attendance record he really couldn't afford to skip a day to simply catch up on some sleep. So, he forced himself to get out of bed and stumble downstairs. Jazz was already in the kitchen, cleaning off her plate in the sink, another with eggs on it sitting in-front of Danny's chair.
"Hey, Danny," Jazz said over the sound of running water, "I made some eggs for the both of us. I have to leave early today though, so I've already finished." She set the plate beside the sink and walked towards the door, grabbing her bag. She unlocked the door, pausing before she left, "Hope you enjoy breakfast, I'll see you after school, and I love you!" With that she exited and closed the door behind her.
Danny went over to the table and sat down, picking up the fork and slowly eating his eggs. He was really grateful for the non-ectocontaminated food, but he wasn't actually all that hungry. He had noticed that his appetite had diminished since the accident, and his running theory was something to do with his ghost half absorbing the ambient ectoplasm, but he hadn't had the chance to confirm that yet. Danny checked the time, noting that he might be late if he continued to procrastinate, and quickly finished the eggs. After he was done he walked upstairs, texting Sam and Tucker to let them know he might be late, but he was walking with them. He hastily got ready, throwing on some random outfit and brushing his teeth. Grabbing his backpack and wallet, he speed-walked towards his friends, who were waiting for him with Tucker glued to his new PDA (named something like Becky) and Sam just standing there. "Hey guys!" he called out as he walked towards them, "Think we have time to stop by a store to get a monster or something? I was woken up like, twelve times last night and I'm exhausted right now."
"We probably don't," Sam said, smirking at Danny as he pouted, "buuut," she took off her backpack, setting it down, and pulling out a still cold can of monster from her bag. "I thought ahead." Danny smiled at her, grabbing the can from her hand,
"Thank you, Sam!" She gave a slight smile, nodding at him. He took a quick minute to relish in opening the can of monster, before saying, "Let's head out?" Sam and Tucker both agreed, the latter finally looking up from his PDA, slipping it into his pocket. And so the trio headed off to school, chattering about inane topics on the way. School was fairly uneventful, other than Danny falling asleep a few times.
Most of the ghosts he fought now he was on pretty friendly terms with, and their battles were more akin to spars now, so he had been able to convince them to not go after him during school hours. However, he had not been able to fully sway them away from doing it at night, and, combined with random ghosts causing mayhem, it really affected his sleep. Sure, he could command them to not bother him at night, perks of being the Ghost King-in-training, but he never liked the idea of forcing anything to do something, so that was right out. It didn't matter to him though, as he was, in his words, "still half-alive, so it's fine i guess." So he didn't tend to dwell on it that much.
Classes passed by quickly for Danny, and soon enough he was on his way home with Sam and Tucker, not having detention for once. It was also uneventful, which was actually making Danny a bit nervous. Normally by now at least something had happened, so the silence was eerie. He tried to shake it off and just be grateful for the break, but it stayed in the back of his mind. Eventually, he got home, waving goodbye to his friends and heading inside, and it did not serve to ease his worry. The house was empty and dark, and while he knew that Jazz was working, it was odd that his parents weren't home.
He wracked his brain, trying to remember if they had mentioned going on a business trip or something, but he hadn't heard anything about it. He sighed, assuming that they'd probably just forgotten to inform him of the trip, and walked over to the living room, turning on the lights. He was a little disappointed, but it was not an unusual occurrence for them to forget to tell Jazz or him that they were gonna be gone. He turned on the TV, taking out his homework and setting it on the coffee table before pausing and pulling out his phone to message Jazz and let her know that their parents were gone.
As he was typing, he felt an uneasy feeling building in his gut. He ignored it, which he would soon realize was a bad idea. Just as he was finishing the message, about to hit send, something grabbed him, electrifying him. The current running through his veins made him drop his phone, as well as let out a bloodcurdling scream for a few brief seconds before he passed out.
The dropped phone laid on the soft carpet screen blinking as a new message popped up, asking why he had sent them "parents arent home, probably left on some busdaugjdhkjagkdhj" and if he was okay. Danny's unconscious body could not respond, though, and he was dragged away, twitching on occasion from the electricity still running through him.
