The smell of warm chocolate and the muffled sounds of a mixer coming from the kitchen slowly wake him up from the deep slumber he fell into, when Felix was still inside his arms, all warm and comfy, and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek, telling him that his special day will be filled with lots of fun activities and surprises.
Today it’s Seungmin’s birthday and though he woke up alone because Felix already got up for his shenanigans in the kitchen, he can’t help but feel all warm inside – from the sun rays peeking in through the flowy curtains, and from Felix’s promise.
He can’t wait to see what the day has in store for him, for them.
After having stretched his tired limbs with a quiet sigh, he swings his legs from the edge of the bed until his fluffy socked feet hit the floor and take him to the curtains to open them with one fluent movement, revealing a large glass door that leads onto their little, magical garden.
Seungmin loves it with all of his heart, could spend hours there, surrounded by medical plants and all kinds of herbs, by bluebells and roses and wild meadows where any kind of forester finds shelter, a safe place to live.
Though he still feels a little groggy, he decides to take off his socks and step out into the dewy grass and soft mosses, heading straight to their white, ornate bench, to sit down and just relax for a while, to close his eyes and listen to all the sounds surrounding him – the quiet chirping of crickets, the happy squeaking of an hedgehog somewhere hiding in the grass, the excited warbling of little robins flying high above his head.
It always helps him to calm down, to connect with nature and unite with his roots.
Since Seungmin descended from an ancient family of fairies, he knows the forests like the back of his hand, feels at home anywhere in nature.
Whenever he lays down inside high grasses, takes rest on lower tree branches and watches blue shimmery beetles, ladybugs and curious rodents roam around the forest floors, he feels the happiest, feels complete.
So he never really minded not having a stable home, preferring to get lost inside the woods and escape the arguments and bad mouthing, to leave all this negativity behind.
Fairies are gentle, tender beings, and he felt himself deteriorating in this toxic environment, felt devastated and hopeless when his last little bits of happiness got trampled to the ground – by harsh words and rarely any praise, by daily preaching that fairies aren’t meant to have lifelong partners – words of frustration from his mother after his father had left them so out of the blue. So Seungmin decided to run away for good.
Only sometimes, in extreme emergencies, he would ask gentle strangers he encountered on his roaming for help, when a night got bitterly cold or his stomach grumbled and hurt from not having a warm meal in way too long.
But Seungmin still wouldn’t want it any other way, learning that in the end he could only trust himself.
He simply was better off alone. Just him and the sun on his bare arms, the raw earth beneath his soles, the soft breeze gently caressing his wings. Only him and his thoughts and the vivid buzzing of nature.
He thought that this would be his life forever, lonely but without the fear of getting hurt, getting abandoned.
He thought that his life fulfilled him.
Until he met Felix.
They immediately clicked when they crossed paths deep, deep inside the forest, when Seungmin, at first cautious and pulling his wings close to his body, felt relief and curiosity bubble up inside him when he watched how warmly Felix smiled at him, his gaze falling upon the stranger’s woven basket full of different kinds of herbs.
“Oh hi!” he kindly exclaims, gifting him a little wave and a bright smile. “I’m Felix. Never thought that I’d ever meet a fairy in person.”
Seungmin had to slightly cough because he hadn’t talked in so long, but then he could feel a shy smile tugging at the corner of his lips, and he nodded, hurrying to answer.
“Hi Felix, I’m Seungmin,” he told him, blushing when he remembered how bewildered he must look, with the earth’s soil clinging to his pink cheeks, with his torso bare and full with scratches from branches brushing over his skin, with his hair all disheveled.
But Felix didn’t seem to mind.
“Nice to meet you, Seungmin,” he answered with obvious delight in his deep voice before rummaging around his basket and holding out a red clover for him. “They’re super sweet and full of protein, you wanna try one?”

Since this fateful encounter with Felix, with such a kind person so wondrously caring for the timid fairy, Seungmin felt his heart softening a little, bit by bit.
He felt himself blooming, as if he was a withered flower finally being watered again, preening from Felix’s kindness and his positive outlook on life, on anything really.
That’s why Seungmin let Felix show him where he lived, at the outskirts of the forest – inside a tiny yet very welcoming brick row house, with a warming fireplace and the dreamiest interior, surrounded by a wonderfully enchanted garden that took Seungmin’s heart by storm.
Felix took his heart by storm, with his gentle words and his warm hugs, with his baked goods and his comforting presence, always respecting Seungmin’s boundaries and his needs to spend his days and nights in the woods.
Though slowly but surely, Seungmin started feeling more and more comfortable around his personified sun – until one evening he got invited by Felix to eat dinner together and he caught himself not wanting to leave.
Seungmin didn’t want to leave the warm embrace he’d found himself in when they were cuddling on the couch with their tummies full, when Felix planted a soft kiss to his hair.
It was the last gentle push into the right direction, into trusting Felix enough to settle down.
His fluttering heart that finally stopped feeling cold and untouchable, hope replacing feelings of mistrust and fear, surely helped him with his decision, helped him voicing the wish he never had before.
“Felix?”
“Hmm?”
His response was only a quiet hum, but Felix’s deep, warm voice calmed him down even more, until he found the courage to nestle closer, his face buried into Felix’s neck – all on his own accord.
It felt like coming home.
“Do you think I could stay here, with you? Always?”
Seungmin’s voice was still a little shaky from his forever remaining fear of rejection, but then Felix simply pulled him closer, carefully, to not hurt his wings.
“Course, Minnie. I’d love to have you here with me. Always.”
And Seungmin couldn’t believe his luck, nestled even closer in a sudden surge of rapture, making Felix giggle from holding onto him so tightly.
He couldn’t believe the words that came out of his own mouth then.
“That makes me so happy.”
Just like that, Seungmin wasn’t alone anymore, and he fell in love with the way it made him feel – wanted and appreciated, sentiences so foreign to him.
After a while of shared, giddy smiles, of intensive cuddles and Felix’s excited babbling about how happy he is himself, they settled down again, listening to their even breathing, the crackling of the fireplace and the birds chirping outside.
Right before drifting off into the comfiest sleep he had in years, Felix’s voice reached him again and let Seungmin sink into a magical dreamworld – where he lived a happier, less lonelier future.
“This is our home.”

From then on, the both of them were inseparable.
Day after day, they realized how easy they got along and how enriching each other’s presence was.
Their appreciation for having each other by their side was accompanying them always:
Felix showed it by showering him with physical affection, by cooking and baking dishes that soon turned into Seungmin’s favourite meals in the whole entire world because he could taste the love Felix poured into making every single one of them.
And though Seungmin was still a little shy, not used to giving and receiving affection, he loved falling asleep inside Felix’s arms, loved helping him with his garden and turning it into a floral paradise.
Sometimes he was spending hours outside to plant lots of new plants and sow seeds of spring flowers, to create dreamy stone paths that led into the thick forest, and even build a wooden bench so they both could spend some quality time in the garden.
In their garden.
Always next to each other and holding quiet conversations, their fingers gently intertwined.
On the bench he’s sitting on right now.
“Minnie!! What are you doing outside?”
Seungmin gets pulled out of his reveries when he hears a gentle laugh and sees Felix walking up to him, his smile so warm and bright, all cozy looking with an oversized, pastel colored sweater and the most adorable sweater paws.
He feels himself smiling back immediately, something that happens so naturally in Felix’s presence. “Just enjoying the sun.”
And when Seungmin’s eyes fall upon a plate that’s carrying the most delicious looking brownie with a little burning candle stuck inside, he smiles so widely that he barely sees.
“Happy Birthday, Minnie,” Felix quietly says when he’s joined Seungmin on the bench and presses a gentle kiss to his cheek. “Can’t wait to celebrate this special day with you.”
Feeling Felix’s lips so soft on his skin has always left him with a happy, tingling feeling, but lately.. Seungmin just can’t shake the thought of Felix really kissing him.
This sudden desire always makes him furiously blush, but though Felix always seems to see right through him, he’s kind enough to not comment on it, being so, so patient with him. Knowing that Seungmin needs time and space.
Felix simply grins a little wider when he catches Seungmin’s rosy cheeks but for now, he holds up the little brownie cake and playful nudges him with his shoulder. “Make a wish.”
And Seungmin does make a wish, one that’s been on his mind for a little while now. He closes his eyes and blows out his candle, putting all his trust into this special day.
He wishes for the courage to kiss Felix, to finally ask him to become his boyfriend.
They never really talked about what they are to each other, all they know is how good they feel when they’re together, that they’ve grown to be each other’s favourite person.
Seungmin smiles when he opens his eyes again and thinks about how fitting that term is.
Felix is his favourite person, a label that doesn’t need to be anything, simply describing someone that you always want to have around, someone who knows you in and out and never fails to cheer you up, who sits with you even in your darkest days. Until the sun shines again.
And now he’s sitting here, overwhelmed by the sudden change of his feelings, because he really, really wants to call Felix his. His boyfriend.
“What did you wish for?”
Felix’s voice cuts through his thoughts once more and Seungmin is glad – sometimes he’s just thinking way too much, his thoughts having been his only companion for a very long time.
Felix has his knees pulled up to his chest and lets his head rest there, looking up at him and waiting for an answer with a hinted, mischievous smile.
Seungmin only playfully rolls his eyes at him and ruffles his blonde hair. “You know my wish won’t come true if I tell you, Lix.”
The way Felix bats his eyelashes and blushes with a widening smile has Seungmin’s heart beating faster, and he’s not able to hold back his next words, barely a whisper. “And I really want my wish to come true.”
Felix gazes back up at him, and it looks like he’s stopped breathing, his full pink lips slightly parted, so inviting. “Will I know when it does?”
Seungmin can only nod, captivated by Felix’s effortless beauty, by these strong feelings that nobody ever was able to elicit from him.
Too guarded was his heart, and so easy was it for Felix to break down those well-kept walls with his otherworldly gentleness – like liquid gold seeping into the cracks of broken glass, turning it even stronger, even more beautiful than it could’ve ever been.
Turning Seungmin’s heart strong and fearless and shimmering with so much love that’s been bottled up all these years.
He tries to swallow down the growing desire to wrap his arms around Felix’s petite figure and just hold him, to never let go, returning the affection that Felix always so selflessly offers.
But wanting to wait for the perfect moment, he pushes these thoughts far away into the back of his head and tries to distract himself by eating Felix’s brownie.
And oh, does it work.
Seungmin squeezes his eyes shut and sighs deeply when the chocolatey goodness melts on his tongue, revealing a slight hint of peanut butter, too. Felix’s baked goods are the bestest natural mood elevators on this planet.
“This is so good, Lix, thank you so much for making these for me,” he says, taking his last bite and already wanting another.
Felix giggles from Seungmin’s obvious greediness but immediately gets up to get him another piece, always able to read him so easily.
“You know how much joy it brings me to bake,” he smiles when he comes back with another brownie on his plate, this time decorated with pastel sprinkles. “And it’s only right that you catch up on all the foods you missed, Minnie, you were out there alone, for so, so long,” Felix adds with a frown, sounding a little sad, reminiscent.
“But now I’m here,” Seungmin hurries to say with a little smile and tries to catch Felix’s thoughtful gaze, making a goofy face at him when he succeeds.
And it has the desired effect.
Felix is giggling again, takes Seungmin’s plate and puts it next to him on the bench, just so he can throw his legs over Seungmin’s lap and snuggle into his chest, arms tightly wrapped around him. “I’m very glad you are.”
They were staying like this for a while, simply enjoying their closeness and the sunshine on their skin.
Until a little mouse suddenly flies past them with excited squeaking and a mushroom in its mouth.
“What–”
They stare at each other for a second before bursting out in laughter, holding each other’s trembling bodies.
“I didn’t know they like mushrooms that much,” Seungmin finally says, catching an escaping tear from the corner of his eye.
“Yeah, they do, mostly champignons, I think,” Felix tells him, and right after a wave of over-cuddliness hits him as he squeezes Seungmin and presses their cheeks together. “God, I love laughing with you, Minnie.”
Seungmin lets out an exaggerated groan, but innerly melts against Felix’s soft skin. “Please don’t cuddle me to death.”
As quickly as it happened, Felix lets go of him, holding up his hands in defeat. “Okay, okay, no dying on your birthday, please.”
But before Seungmin could miss Felix’s warmth close to him, he already leans in again, gently, carefully. It feels so much more intimate that way.
“Speaking of mushrooms,” he mumbles, placing a little kiss on Seungmin’s bare shoulder. “Since it’s mushroom season, I thought about using them for dinner. And we could go look for them!”
Though his head is full with the feeling of Felix’s soft lips on his skin, he isn’t able to fight the thoughts about a warm, hearty dinner either, about Felix and him walking through the forests and going mushroom hunting.
Maybe they would hold hands, and maybe Seungmin would find the courage to confess, empowered by all the greenery surrounding them.
“Going mushroom hunting on my birthday must be the most perfect idea anyone’s ever had,” Seungmin says, looking into Felix’s sparkling eyes.
He doesn’t dare to stand up and follow an excited Felix into the house right away because his knees suddenly feel so weak.
The prospect of having fun with Felix and spending some time exploring secret paths and collecting pretty mushrooms made his heart beat excitedly.
But then Felix’s voice reaches him, warm and grounding, a constant he could always cling to.
“Your presents are waiting, Minnie!!”
💜 🌱 🧚 🍄
Seungmin has never felt this happy.
It’s his first birthday with company since a very long time, his first birthday ever with such a comforting presence by his side.
And he can’t help but get all emotional, his bottom lip starting to tremble and tears impairing his vision when Felix excitedly shoves present after present into his hand and each turns out to be so thoughtful, so personal and special.
Slowly but surely, he starts to believe that he really is worth all the love and attention, that his troubling childhood doesn’t define him.
In the end, he’s covered in wrapping paper and bows and presents that make him want to hug the whole entire world – seed packets of peonies and pansies scattered everywhere, a huge potted lilac next to him and a big, cozy sweater on his lap that Felix managed to put holes into for his wings.
“Oh Lix, you shouldn’t have,” Seungmin sniffles, smiling through his tears when Felix reassures him, as always.
“This is your special day, Minnie,” he says and sits next to him to take his hand into his, to look at him with such sincerity. “I wouldn’t ever want to miss out on the opportunity to show you how much you deserve all this.”
Seungmin feels his tears restricting his ability to speak, so he just feels for a moment, the rapture, the gratitude, the love he has for Felix, and then he nods.
“Thank you, Felix, for everything.”
Seungmin lets his head rest on his shoulder, closes his eyes in bliss when Felix presses a kiss to his hair, to the back of his hand. “Always.”
After a while of feeling each other close, Felix’s warm giggle sounds in Seungmin’s ear, making him smile just as much.
“Let’s get going, hm?”
💜 🌱 🧚 🍄
After Seungmin devoured some more brownies and put on his new favourite sweater, they begin with their mushroom hunt, taking the little stone path behind Felix’s house to get on unpaved terrain and right into the depths of the forest.
Felix is carrying the woven basket from the day they first met, inside a little knife and an encyclopedia about mushrooms, a gift that Seungmin got him for his birthday a couple of months ago.
Seungmin remembers how careful and timid he was back then, how much effort it had cost him to stay one whole day at Felix’s house.
It was especially hard to admit to himself that he enjoyed the company of another, that he missed not being alone when he left Felix at the end of the day.
They’ve come such a long way.
Now, Seungmin unapologetically seeks closeness and isn’t scared to voice his feelings, his needs – because he knows that Felix keeps them safe, that he’d never take advantage of Seungmin’s vulnerability.
If anything Felix celebrates it, seems like the happiest person alive whenever Seungmin initiates physical contact.
Just like today, when he steps to Felix’s side after cutting off some little chanterelles, and takes his hand to gently intertwine their fingers.
It makes Felix giddily smile at their joint hands before looking up at Seungmin, his eyes so sparkling and bright.
Seungmin returns his look with a small grin, once again realizing how enamored he is with him, how he wants to ogle at him up close and kiss him over and over again, watching how his cheeks turn rosy and his gaze grows all intense.
It’s a need almost too overwhelming when Felix nestles close against his arm, and sweetly mumbles, “I’m so happy, Minnie.”
And Seungmin is so happy, too.
Sometimes it’s so obvious in the way his delicate wings flutter uncontrollably, tickling Felix when he’s close to him, or making him giggle and admire their color, like sparkling opals when the sun hits right.
Seungmin couldn’t care less when he feels his wings doing it again while watching Felix inspect some mushrooms that look like huge porcinis, cutely leafing through his book.
Especially not when Felix looks so otherworldly pretty, his gaze all concentrated with his lips slightly parted, illuminated by the sun peeking through the treetops.
It’s when Seungmin knows that this is the perfect moment he’s wished for in the morning.
His feet almost naturally guide him closer to Felix crouching down, resulting in him looking up with the sweetest surprise painting his features, his brown eyes catching the light and turning into the reason for Seungmin’s heart taking a leap.
Felix’s eyes are so, so warm.
And Seungmin needs to have them even closer, needs to have Felix closer, so he slowly lets himself down on his knees right in front of him, already feeling so breathless despite barely moving.
“Hi,” he mumbles shyly after having taken a deep breath, watching how Felix’s eyes grow all wide and wondrous when he has Seungmin so close so suddenly, barely any space left in between their equally flustered faces.
“Hi,” Felix answers him, just as breathless, so obviously enthralled by their proximity.
A little gasp leaves him when Seungmin decides to stroke over the side of Felix’s face and traces his beautiful freckles with his fingertips.
And though Seungmin feels like passing out on the spot from this overwhelming need, he finds solace in Felix’s expressive eyes, the same yearning written inside them.
Their gazes tell the same, lovely story when they drop down to each other’s lips, both so flustered when they realize how badly they need each other right now.
It takes him so much courage to ask, but Felix always makes him feel so brave.
“Can I…?”
His timid question is met with heavy nodding, with Felix putting his hand on top of Seungmin’s that rests on his cheek, leaning in to press their foreheads together.
A quiet giggle resounds in their blissful bubble and Felix ventures another step, his nose gently brushing against his.
“I’ve wanted this for so long.”
And as if a playful rodent gave Seungmin a nudge with its little paws, he closes the distance in between them without a second thought.
When their lips touch, finally, Seungmin knows that nothing will ever come close to this.
Though he always valued his autonomy above everything else all these years, glad to not be dependent on anyone, he could gladly do without all that if it meant being able to kiss Felix everyday for the rest of his life, to let himself fall into the arms of the person he came to love so naturally.
Felix’s lips are warm and soft, so gently moving against his that there are goosebumps running down Seungmin's spine, spreading through his whole body and making him a little overeager.
It punches a surprised screech out of Felix when they tumble over and Seungmin lands on top of him, uttering a breathless, giggled sorry against his lips before kissing him again, insatiably.
He’s exploring every inch of Felix’s plump, velvety lips, gives him little pecks, brushes over his bottom lip and kisses the corner of his mouth, reveling in the feeling of Felix’s smile against his lips.
Seungmin could go on forever and ever, especially when Felix sighs into their kiss and the taste of warm chocolate lingers on Seungmin’s tongue, so familiar and yet so thrilling, paired with Felix now kissing him more fervently, as insatiable as him.
But then a need more urgent than their kisses flares up inside Seungmin and he carefully pulls away, his mind all fluffy, hazy.
He has to tell Felix something important, can’t wait for his reaction.
His plans got postponed though, for a couple of moments.
Moments so intimate and blissful, when their eyes meet again and Seungmin can’t fathom how Felix’s beauty increased in the last couple of minutes.
His eyes are half-lidded, as deep inside his head as Seungmin, his cheeks are a flushed red and accommodate his freckles so well, his blonde hair is fanned out all prettily on the soft moss they’re laying on, and his lips seem a little swollen from their kissing – it takes everything in Seungmin to not lean in again and kiss his precious pout.
But then again, Seungmin would be fine to simply ogle at him forever, at his personified sun, his hope, his comfort – Felix is truly glowing.
Yet, he gives in and presses one last sweet kiss to Felix’s lips before getting ready to speak, wearing his heart on his sleeve, without any fear.
Because Seungmin finally believes in fairytales again.
“My wish came true, Lix.”
