Chapter 1: Robin

Chapter Text

Steve and Eddie hadn’t been together terribly long, in their defense. Honestly, the whole thing was kind of unexpected. They had found comfort in each other after the Vecna situation. Steve frequently visited Eddie while recovering from the Demo-Bat bites and stayed by his side the entire time he was at trial (proven innocent, thank god.)

They had fallen into a pleasant routine - Eddie pretty much lived with Steve after he had graduated. He loved his Uncle with all his heart, but after everything that had happened, it was hard for him to stay at the trailer. To be in a place that served as a constant reminder of the nightmares he had experienced.

It had started small, with Eddie staying in a guest room next to Steve’s. Soon it evolved to Eddie sleeping on the floor of Steve’s room. (They both were plagued with nightmares and had developed an unspoken agreement - that staying with each other helped.) It ended with Eddie in Steve’s bed (because what kind of host would he be if he made Eddie sleep on the hard floor?)

Small reassuring touches turned to full-on cuddling in Steve’s bed within days. They justified that it was platonic and just for comfort until they couldn’t anymore. All it had taken was one heated look from Steve Eddie’s graduation night before they were frantically grabbing at each other, hastily making their way to bed.

They’d decided to keep it secret - just between them, because they couldn’t risk getting caught in a town like Hawkins. They weren’t looking to get hate crimed.

It was now July, about a month since they’d gotten together. Steve and Eddie were lying in bed, limbs tangled together. They had been up late the previous evening, knowing that the gremlins weren’t coming over until around one for a DND session.

Steve inhaled the scent of Eddie’s (his) shampoo as he pressed his face closer to the latter’s hair. With his arm absentmindedly thrown over Eddie’s waist, Steve pulled him closer to his chest until they were spooning, bodies flush together.

Steve gathered Eddie’s hair to the side, pressing light kisses to the back of his neck. Eddie groaned as he was roused from his sleep, looking behind him to make soft eye contact with Steve.

“Hey,” he said with a dopey smile. Reaching forward, he began to run his hands through Eddie’s slightly tangled hair, brushing all of the little knots out with his fingers, returning his boyfriend's glorious mane (Eddie’s words, not his) to its original curly state. “How’d you sleep?”

“Best sleep of my life Stevie.” Eddie grinned, turning around fully, pressing their fronts together. “You?”

“Slept like a baby. You know I always sleep better with you around.”

“Ew, gross. What are you, gay?”

Steve let out a loud laugh, briefly startling Eddie. “No, I just love staring into your gorgeous eyes completely platonically.”

Eddie chuckled and shook his head, curls bouncing with the movement. “Oh yeah? And tell me, what is so fascinating about my eyes that it has you so distracted, hmm?”

“Oh, don’t even get me started,” Steve propped himself up on one arm and began rubbing little circles into Eddie’s neck. “It’s like staring into endless pools of honey. Whenever we’re outside, it takes everything in me not to kiss you senseless. And god, you’re eyelashes are just so long and dark it’s criminal, honestly.” Steve leaned in, pressing kisses to Eddie’s shoulder. “And it’s not just your eyes, oh no,” slowly moving up, he continued, “You’re just so goddamn beautiful it amazes me. Sometimes I’m convinced you’re actually an angel sent down from heaven to keep my dumbass in line.” He slowly sucked marks into Eddie’s neck, eliciting a soft groan from the latter. “Or maybe you’re actually a sculpture of Michelangelo’s, escaped from the Met just to stumble upon little ole’ me.” Lightly grabbing Eddie’s chin, he forced his head to meet his eyes, “Honestly, sometimes it’s hard to believe you’re mine.”

“Jesus Christ, you’re sappy.” Eddie downright giggled. Pulling Steve in for a kiss, he continued. “Am I the only one who gets to see you like this, Harrington? Completely wasted just by looking at me?”

“Nah, you’re not that special.”

Eddie recoiled, feigning hurt. “Steve Harrington, I am shocked. We have seven children together, and this is how you treat me? I want a divorce.”

Steve just chuckled and leaned in for another kiss. “Yeah yeah, I love you too, you dork.” Slotting their lips together, they comfortably lay in bed for the next half an hour, lazily making out while holding each other.

“As much as I hate to stop this, our kids are gonna be here in a few hours, and we gotta clean the house.” Steve groaned and reluctantly pulled away, reaching up to tangle his hands in Eddie’s locks.

“Why do you have to be right?”

“Darling, I’m always right.”

“Humble, too,” Steve grumbled as he stood up and began stretching. “What time are the kids gonna be here again? I can’t remember if we’re making them food too or not.” Searching around his (their) room, he quickly threw on one of Eddie’s shirts, some band one that he didn’t know.

“They’ll be here for lunch and dinner - they’re staying the night last I checked.” The pair made their way downstairs, dancing around each other in a familiar rhythm as they grabbed their respective breakfasts. “You want pancakes?”

Steve’s stomach made a noise of agreement. “Oh hell yes, that sounds so good.”

Chuckling, Eddie pulled a glass bowl from the drawer below him. “Wanna go grab the flour while I start cracking the eggs?”

Steve nodded, making his way to the pantry to retrieve the flour. After grabbing the bag, he walked back to Eddie, setting the flour in front of him. Steve wrapped his arms around Eddie’s waist and rested his chin against the older boy’s shoulder. He kissed Eddie’s neck, causing the latter to squirm and giggle in mild discomfort.

“Stevie, I can’t focus if you’re gonna be all over me,” he lightly scolded.

“Don’t care,” came Steve’s muffled voice. “You’re comfy, and I’m not moving.”

Eddie shook his head in amusement and started mixing ingredients to the best of his ability. The pair sat in comfortable silence, the soft sound of Steve’s Tears for Fears vinyl playing in the background.

“Hey, Eds?”

“Mmm?”

“I love you.”

Eddie laughed, setting the whisk down to turn around to face Steve and capture his lips in a kiss. “I love you too, you sap.”

“I’m not a sap,” Steve mumbled against Eddie’s mouth, the two moving in tandem.

“Sure, keep telling yourself that, big boy.”

Pancakes forgotten, they made out slowly and softly in the kitchen. Too enamored with each other, they didn’t hear the sound of keys jiggling in the door. “Steve, I need your help - it’s about Vicki, and I– Oh my GOD.” Robin’s voice interrupted the pair, causing them to quickly spring apart. Turning around, they were met with the sight of Robin, standing slack-jawed in front of them.

“Robin, what the hell are you doing here?? It’s 9 am, for Christ’s sake! How’d you even get in??” Steve said.

“You gave me a key, dingus! And I came here because I’m having a crisis with Vicki, but CLEARLY, there are more important things to discuss!” Robin stomped over to the pair and smacked Steve on the arm. “Why the fuck didn’t you tell me you and Eddie were together?? I thought we were closer than that, and after I just helped you with you’re sexuality crisis too!!”

Eddie looked between the two with amusement, taking in Robin’s furious face and Steve’s “deer caught in headlights” expression.

“Because we wanted to see if it was gonna work out first! I was going to tell you soon, Robs, I swear! I’m really really sorry - please don’t be too mad at me.” Steve apologized, walking forwards to wrap the girl in his arms.

“It’s fine, you idiot. However, I expect to be more informed of developments like this next time,” her muffled voice came from where it was buried in Steve’s chest. “I’m still pissed, by the way. It’s not fair that you got to kiss a boy before I kiss a girl. Much less get a goddamn boyfriend.”

Eddie’s loud laughter startled the two, causing the two to jump, startled. “We’re sorry we didn’t tell you, Robin. We were going to soon, I promise. We just… wanted to keep it between the two of us for a bit, ya know?”

Robin grabbed Eddie’s hand and yanked him into a group hug. “I already said it’s fine, dumbass.” She stepped back from the hug and leveled the boys with a shit-eating grin. “I had my suspicions anyways, and now you have just won me $20 from Will.”

Steve gaped at her, “You’ve been betting on my love life with Byers??” Eddie hid a snort behind his hand, wrapping his other arm around Steve’s waist. “How did you even know? We were so sneaky!”

She full-on laughed at him, doubling over. “You guys really aren’t that subtle, I’m surprised Will and I are the only ones that noticed you two giving each other bedroom eyes 24/7.”

“Jesus Christ,” Steve pinched his nose between two fingers, leaning into Eddie’s side. “You’re insufferable.”

“You love me.”

“No comment.” Robin laughed again, making her way over to the kitchen island. “Ooh, pancakes! Can I have some?”

Eddie walked over, picking up the whisk again, and continued mixing. “I’ve got you, Buckley. You want chocolate chips in yours?”

“Yes please, that sounds amazing,” she drooled. Steve shook his head fondly, looking at his best friend and his boyfriend. “Why are you staring, dingus?”

“Nothing, just thinking about how much I love you both.” He said with a smile, walking over to help Eddie with breakfast.

“Sap,” Eddie whispered into his ear, sending a laugh through his body.

“Yeah, ok, maybe just a little.” Steve turned around to face Robin again, “I can trust you won’t tell anyone else?”

“Oh, of course not, cross my heart and hope to die,” she said, crossing her chest with her fingers. “Your little gay secret is safe with me.”

Steve rolled his eyes lightheartedly, walking back over and pulling Eddie into a deep kiss.

“Oh ew, gross! Not in front of me, you dingus!” The three looked at each other before bursting out into laughter.

God, Steve thought, I really am the luckiest guy in the world. He grabbed Eddie for another kiss, soft and gentle. “Man, I love you guys so much.”

“Love you too, Steve.” Robin and Eddie parroted.
