I Think She Knows

Summary:

Calliope Burns is looking for a fresh start, somewhere new, but more importantly, she’s looking for a fresh case. In her internet digging, she found a string of suspicious murders in Georgia. Feeling strangely drawn to this case, Cal moves to Georgia to set her sight on solving this case, which in her opinion, screams ‘vampire’.

Juliette Fairmont recently opened her own bakery, Capulet’s, and as much as she’s feeling like an accomplished badass, she feels like something’s missing. Someone. Amidst her sad love life, Jules also has strange nights occur where she sleepwalks. It doesn’t happen often, so brushes these nights off… for now.

Orrrrrrr Cal is like a monster hunter detective on the hunt for this killer, and Juliette is a baker who is slowly discovering she’s a vampire.

Chapter Text

Life has been dull and lifeless since things ending with Tess. That’s not to say life only has meaning if someone is by your side, but it’s a hell of a lot more enjoyable, that’s for sure. And Calliope Burns doesn’t do dull; she needs something to focus on. Something to chase after.

Cal untucks her blouse in a brash manner and kicks off her shoes. Immediately after, she sinks into the couch, like she’s never relaxed a second in her life. And maybe she hasn’t; she has a natural drive within her to keep moving. She swipes her laptop from the coffee table, and kicks her feet up.

She’s ready for change, and that’s exactly what she’s gonna get. Cal does a deep dive, gathering recent, unsolved crime cases.

A few immediately draw her attention, but after hours of searching, one sticks out the most. A string of unsolved murders in Georgia. All of the murders fall under the same, strange circumstances.

The more Cal reads, the tighter her chest feels. And this itching feeling, deep within her chest, has nothing to do with fear. No, it has everything to do with her drive to find this killer. Because she knew exactly who the killer was: a vampire.

All the victim autopsy reports fit similar descriptions; strange markings surrounding the neck area, large amounts of blood missing. You’d have to be an idiot to think this wasn’t a vampire’s doing.

That feeling in her chest is close to what she considers her intuition. She feels a strong pull towards this case. Of course she doesn’t know exactly why, but her parents have always taught her through and through to trust her gut. And that’s exactly what’s she’s going to do.

Some would say Cal is acting impulsively by searching for positions in Georgia, already looking at apartments. Cal calls it ambition mixed with intuition. She needs this. Especially now.

-

Cal has worked for everything she has, and with that hard work comes great opportunities. So Cal isn’t at all surprised when she applied for a detective position down in Georgia, she got a call back a day later.

Folding the last shirt, she places it in the large box labeled ‘clothing’. She’s moved around enough to have gotten this whole ‘moving’ thing down pat.

Plopping down on her bed, she stares at the ceiling. A sigh escapes her lips. She should probably call her parents and fill them in, but she’s kinda got the feeling they wouldn’t like her uprooting her life on a whim. So she’s decided to tell them once she’s already settled in at her new apartment.

-

Juliette stares at the gaping dark circles under her eyes. Her appearance frightened her, but the lack of memory of last night frightens her even more. It’s not like she can blame it on drinking, since she hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol since she’s started having those ‘episodes’.

She splashes freezing cold water against her face, several times. Pulling her hair up in a messy bun, she stares at her face. Every now and then, she’ll see those dark circles pop up, with no memory of the night before,so it really shouldn’t be a shock. It’s very bizarre, nonetheless. Juliette, however, is too focused on her business to care. It’s not like it’s an every night occurrence anyways, so it probably just has something to do with her sleep walking.

A few months ago she woke up in her front lawn, in completely different clothes on than she went to sleep in. It freaked her the fuck out. She searched online for hours to finally come up with sleep walking. And it didn’t not make sense? So she rolled with it, seeing as she had no other feasible option.

Her phone lights up, with Ben’s name fitted across the screen. A groan leaves her lips, but the evident smile stretching across her face betrays her. “Ben,” she answers.

“Alright I’m on my way to the shop, but I’m in a coffee mood. Want your usual?”

Juliette walks back in her room to figure out a quick outfit. “Ben, yes, you are a lifesaver. I would love any form of caffeine right now.”

“K, I’ll meet you there,” Ben chuckles, understanding Juliette must’ve had one of her ‘off’ nights.

Juliette told Ben about her weird sleep habits as soon as they started happening. She tells him everything. Nights when she gets a bad feeling, she calls Ben, and he’s at her house in a moments notice.

Nights like those, Ben stays over and keeps watch over Juliette. Some nights they watch movies, some nights they chat about their awful love life. Ben has Juliette’s back, and Juliette would absolutely die for Ben; he’s the best thing that’s happened to her.

-

Juliette flips the lights on, and begins the opening process. She’s owned Capulet’s for the past few years. It’s been hard work, but the workload has eased with the years.

She didn’t always want to own a bakery, but one day it just clicked. It was an idea that just occurred out of nowhere. Once that idea was in her head, though, it felt right. So, she rolled with it.

Everyone in her life has backed her up in this dream, which is part of the reason why she’s so successful. She wouldn’t be where she’s at without Ben or her family. Even if her family can be obnoxious at times, they really just care that she’s happy.

So she’s managed to create a happy place for herself, and a profitable business. There’s not more she could ask for… other than someone to share it with. Not that Ben isn’t always by her side, but she and him have established when they were kids; they would be besties for life and nothing more.

Part of her wanted a woman to walk through those doors and sweep her off her feet, but that must be too much to ask, seeing as she’s had no luck in these past few months. Nothing that meant anything anyway.

But she wanted something that meant something. She wants that so bad. But for now she has her cinnamon roll babies to keep her sane.
