Chapter Text
Calliope had called Juliette in a moment of weakness. Her ‘needing help unpacking’ was a facade to see Juliette again. The woman must’ve stolen Calliope’s heart the moment they met, because she’s down so bad. And she’s normally not like this.
It’s so bad Cal needs to give herself a pep talk in the mirror; telling herself to pull her shit together and stop acting like a lovesick teen. She’s a fucking detective at one of the best precincts in Georgia and a short baker has her in a chokehold? She can’t have that.
A part of her wants to see if she could shake this hold Juliette seems to have on her, or if she should give in. Only time will tell.
A knock sounds and the door and Calliope practically runs to the door, almost tripping over a box on her way there. Apparently that pep talk didn’t do shit.
Calming her breathing down from the jog she just did, she opens the door. “Hey,” she says, letting Juliette in, “I didn’t actually think you’d come.”
Juliette walks in, taking in the sight of all the boxes. “Yeah, I had to ditch my family. They were getting to be too much.”
Calliope leans against the kitchen table. “That bad, huh?” She asks, witnessing Juliette’s distressed posture.
“Yeah, but let’s not talk about that. Let’s talk about you,” Juliette walks further into the apartment, checking out the couch to her right.
This throws Cal for a loop. Juliette wants to talk about her. The thought made her stomach twirl around and around.
Sitting down, Juliette asks, “How is work going?”
Calliope takes a seat next to her, an inch of space in between. The intentional lack of space makes Cal’s breathing pick up. “It’s been-“ she tries to downplay, but she can’t. “It’s been so good, Juliette. My police chief just put me on that serial killer case, and she’s actually super nice. Everyone is nice there. It’s such a relief.”
Juliette’s eyes are wide and entranced at every word Calliope utters. This makes Cal feel like Juliette actually cares about what she’s saying. This isn’t helping Cal’s plan to rid herself of this hold Juliette has on her.
Juliette’s jaw drops at the serial killer case news. “Calliope!” She grabs her hand out of instinct. “That is huge! I’m so happy for you!”
Calliope beams at Juliette’s excitement on her behalf. “Thanks, I’ve got a lot of theories going on.”
Juliette shifts in her seat, leaning closer. “Are those theories confidential?”
Cal leans closer, tilting her head a little. “Oh these theories are top secret,” she moves closer to Juliette’s ear. “But I can make an exception for you.”
Juliette leans in, closer. “You know how to make a woman feel special,” she says, breathily.
Cal backs up a tad, brushing Juliette’s hair out of her face. “It’s because you are.”
-
Juliette feels her face heating up. She most certainly feels special. “So what are those theories, detective Burns?” She dances her fingers across Cal’s knee.
“Well, I got to see the last crime scene recently, and I don’t know Juliette-“ she looks at her, conflicted. “I have this gut feeling the killer is a woman.”
Juliette’s eyes go wide. “No wayyyy. What makes you think that?”
“Well there are some pieces of evidence that are typically associated with women. The thing is, we don’t know if there was another victim or not at the scene.”
Juliette understands Cal can’t reveal every detail. She scratches her chin, in thought. “Huh, that’s weird. Any other theories?”
Cal looks around, then back at Jules. “Do you believe in monsters?”
“Like werewolves and zombies?”
Cal nods. “I don’t know. I’ve heard rumors, but never actually seen any.”
Cal moves closer. “Never?”
Juliette raises an eyebrow. “Nope.”
“Well I’ve seen enough monsters to last me a lifetime. I think the killer is a vampire,” Cal says with a straight face.
Juliette purses her lips, trying to take what Cal said seriously, even if it sounds a little crazy. “The killer might be a vampire?”
“Victims had bite marks and a lack of blood, but no signs of struggle,” cal explains.
“Huh, that’s strange.”
The talk of monsters and killers died down, as Juliette and Calliope work on unpacking the boxes.
“So how are things with you?” Calliope asks, throwing a throw pillow she unpacked on the couch.
Juliette thinks over how to answer that loaded question. “I’ve been good business wise, but I don’t know-“ she plays with the cardboard box flap, “I’ve had a lot of raging headaches recently, just like health stuff.”
Calliope stops unpacking the box she was working on. “Really? I’m sorry to hear that. Do you know what’s causing these headaches?”
Juliette shakes her head. “I have no idea,” she half lies.
All she knows is it runs in the family for some reason and fucks up her sleep and apparently messes with her teeth? But she’s getting closer and closer to figuring things out.
Cal walks closer to Juliette. “Anything I can do to make you feel better?”
Juliette feels a smile coming on. “Well there is one thing I have in mind,” she says slowly, wrapping her hands around Calliope’s waist.
“What’s that?” Calliope plays dumb, looking down at Juliette.
Juliette leans in for a kiss, but Calliope’s baseball cap bumps into her forehead. “Cool hat,” Juliette taps the brim.
Cal takes her hat off and places it on Juliette’s head. “There-“ she admires the sight in front of her, “you look cute,” she says softly.
Juliette’s eyes filter over Calliope’s face, in a haze. Juliette turns the baseball hat backwards on her head. “What about now?”
Cal is speechless for a good second, making Juliette wonder if it looks dumb as hell.
“That’s fucking hot, Juliette,” Calliope admits, in a lowered voice.
Juliette laughs, skeptically, “you think so?”
-
“Come here,” she motions for Juliette with her pointer finger.
Juliette backs Cal against the edge of the counter, and her whole body tingles with pure want as she witnesses Cal’s eyes flicker from her eyes to her mouth.
Without another beat, Juliette captures Calliope’s lips with her own. Cal’s lips close in on her’s in return, like she’s on a mission. A mission to bring Juliette to her knees, apparently because the deep, passionate kiss starts to shift to a more fervent, open-mouthed kiss.
Juliette is the first to break free for air. “I’ve been wanting to do that for so long,” Juliette whispers.
Calliope stares back at Juliette, “me too,” she kisses Juliette first this time, pulling her hips in, flush against hers.
Calliope moves to the her right, allowing Juliette more access. A loud crash sounds, causing the two to jump.
Juliette reaches a protective arm over Calliope. “What was that?” Cal asks.
Looking around, they spot the glass shards on the ground. “Oh shit, back up,” Juliette pulls Cal back.
“It’s fine, I’ll just pick it up carefully,” Cal explains, inching closer to the glass.
Juliette grabs Cal’s hand. “Calliope, you’re gonna cut yourself. Let’s just get the broom.”
Cal looks at their hands touching. “I would, but the thing is, I don’t have one-“ she looks from their hands, to Juliette’s eyes, “just moving in and all,” she reasons.
Juliette’s lips form an ‘o’. “Well let me, I can pick it up. These hands have been through it all anyways,” she laughs, bending down.
“It’s fine, I can do that. Grab me a trash bag from the closet over there,” she points to the closet across the kitchen.
-
Juliette stares at Calliope for a minute, deciding if she should let her pick up broken glass. She ends up following Cal’s directions.
“Oh fuck!” Calliope whisper-screams.
Juliette whips around, rushing over to Cal. “Calliope, are you okay!?”
Calliope smiles through the pain, raising her injured hand. Blood, blood everywhere, dripping down her hand.
Cal stares at Juliette. “Why are you looking at me like that?“
Juliette averts her gaze. “Like what?”
Calliope says, “like you’re in a daze, like you’re hungry.”
“Blood just-“ Jules stares at the blood, transfixed, “freaks me out,” she manages to say. Understatement of the year.
She’s trying to be strong for Cal, she really is. “But come here,” she pats the countertop, smiling through the insufferable headache she now has.
Maybe she has that thing where people faint when they see blood, but like instead of fainting, she wants the blood. God she’s insane.
“I’m fine Juliet-“ Cal starts, before Juliette brushes a finger against her lips. “Let me take care of you,” she stares at Calliope’s shocked eyes.
Calliope relaxes at the sudden touch. “Okay,” she whispers, defeated.
“I’ll be back. I have a first aid kit in my car,”she explains, “stay here.”
Juliette rushes to her car like Cal’s apartment was on fire. Once she’s far enough away, her throbbing headache subsides.
She throws all the useless shit out of her glove compartment to find the kit.
Once she finally finds it, she pauses for a second, preparing herself for this weird blood-related headache.
—
Calliope stares at her hand. It’s honestly not that bad, but Juliette making a big deal out of taking care of her is hot as hell and kinda feels good.
Of course she can take care of herself if she damn well pleases, but there’s something about Juliette that just throws her senses out the window.
Juliette busts through the door, rushing over to Cal. She stares at the blood for a second, looking away. “Okay,” she says, pulling herself together, “I need to clean the blood off, disinfect, make sure there are no shards, and bandage it.”
Cal follows every word Jules says with amusement. “Did you watch Grey’s Anatomy growing up?”
Juliette looks up at Cal, with a growing smile. “What gave it away?”
Cal laughs, leaning back more. “Just a guess. It’s really cute.”
Juliette looks up momentarily, her cheeks visibly reddening. “You’re really cute.”
Before Calliope can say anything back, Juliette starts the process, pausing every few seconds and looking away. She must really hate blood-
This time though, she looks up at Cal, “you smell so good right now.”
Cal raises her eyebrow, giving Juliette a strange look. “I smell good right now? Did you huff too much of that alcohol,” Cal jokes.
Juliette takes out the tweezers. “Sorry, I don’t know why I said that. But you do smell nice, to be fair. Like uh flowers.”
Juliette examines Cal’s hand for shards, ignoring the splitting headache she has. There seems to be one, and Juliette hesitates before she goes for it. “Look at me, Calliope,” she whispers, pulling her chin up.
While Juliette distracts her from what’s going on, she quickly pulls out the only shard. So quick Calliope doesn’t even notice.
-
“There,” Juliette smiles, but it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. In fact, she has an uneasy look on her face.
Cal looks at Juliette packing away her supplies. She can’t figure out what’s going through that woman’s head. “Hey,” she tries to grab Juliette’s attention back.
Still seated on the countertop, Juliette is finally at Calliope’s height. Cal can tell she likes that; there’s a confident air about her as she walks closer.
Calliope slowly pulls her closer. “Thank you for fixing me up.”
Juliette’s face looks conflicted at first, but she runs a thumb across Cal’s cheek. “Thank you for letting me,” she presses her forehead against Cal’s.
When they both pull apart, they’re pulled back together like a magnet. Juliette pushed Calliope’s legs apart, stepping in between them, eliciting a moan against her lips. Warmth erupts inside Juliette’s chest, as their lips meet again, creating a symphony of fireworks.
Kissing Calliope felt like the missing piece to a long forgotten puzzle. As Juliette’s soft lips part to release a sound, Cal sneaks in her tongue. Fervent lips meet each other in cadence, and Cal snakes her hands up Juliette’s shirt, raking fingers up and down her sides.
Going in for the attack, Cal breaks free to pepper languid kisses against Juliette’s neck; her apparent weak point because Juliette’s mouth snaps open, with her knees left almost wobbling.
-
I’m turn, the overpowering desire to bite Calliope strikes Juliette. As she breaks free and moves to kiss her neck in return, she feels her canines enlarge, like they have before. She quickly pulls back, staring at Cal, who hadn’t seemed to notice.
“I’m sorry, I—“ Juliette starts, first looking at Calliope, then looking back at her neck.
And in that moment, Juliette knew if she didn’t leave right this second, she’d bite Calliope. For what reason, Juliette doesn’t know. She’ll have to do some soul searching or therapy, who knows.
What she does know, is that her feet pull her towards the door. “I gotta go-“ Juliette says quickly, rushing to the door.
“Juliette, wait-“ Cal calls after her, but by then, Juliette is already out the door.
Juliette full on runs to her car, speeding off once she turned it on. She called her mom, putting her on speakerphone.
“Mom, something isn’t right.”
Margot answers, “What’s going on sweetheart?”
“What were you going to say earlier about those headaches?” Juliette asks.
“Why don’t you come home and I’ll explain this all?”
Juliette shakes her head. “I need to know now, I’m losing it here, mom.”
“This isn’t something you want to hear over the phone.”
“Why? What could possibly be-“ Juliette’s sentence is cut short, as she slams on her breaks.
The person that just ran out in front of her looks up. Luckily, her breaks pulled through, and she managed to not hit the insane man in front of her.
“Mom, I’m gonna call you back,” she says, staring at the man, who she almost ran over.
Ending the phone call, she gets out of her car. The man stood tall, with longish hair. A slight smirk played at his lips. “Going somewhere?”
