Chapter Text

“Hello, please leave a message after the tone. *beep*.” The robotic voice spoke from Luz Noceda’s phone.

“Hey, Eda! Very important question I have for you! Is wearing a dirty shirt better than wearing no shirt at all? Please get back to me soon, bye!” Luz ended the call out of breath, sprinting down the street.

Funneling through crowds of people on the sidewalk, with a briefcase slamming against her leg, Luz ran towards the giant building.

Blight Industries.

With a bittersweet smile she stumbled to a halt in front of the automatic glass doors, and with concerning looks from her “soon-to-be coworkers” she walked in.

Luz huffed as she walked to the receptionist in the lobby.

“Uhm, why is it that you’re not wearing a shirt, ma’am?” The receptionist asked with an annoyed look.

“Well, that’s a long story and currently,” Luz looked down to the watch on her wrist, “It’s 10:27 AM, does a 2 minute summary work for you?”

The lady shook her head, scrolling through the appointment times on her monitor. “I presume you’re Luz Noceda, interview for 10:30?”

Luz nodded, her brown hair sweeping into her eyes with the movement. The receptionist narrowed her eyes as she pressed a button on her office phone, soon, lifting the handset to her face.

“Ms. Blight, I have your 10:30 down here, should I send her up?”

With a nod, the receptionist gestured to the elevator, “Floor 8, first door to your left. Best of luck, ma’am.”

With a wave behind her, Luz smiled and nodded her head in thanks. She speed walked towards the elevator pressing the buttons.

“Floor 8, first door to the left..” She mumbled as the elevator took off.

With a sigh, Amity Blight ended the call.

It had been two weeks that she had been Office Manager, and those were some of the busiest two weeks the young heir had in months.

Ever since she graduated with a business degree, Amity was working hard at her parents company, Blight Industries.

It was her predetermined future. A destiny that she disliked more than, well, anything.

But here she was, waiting for a “Luz Noceda” to convince Amity to let her join this horrible company.

And, “speak of the devil,” a knock rattled her door. With a deep breath, Amity spoke,

“Come in.”

And, wow, a sight she was not expecting to see. A tall, ruffled girl, in an entire suit, minus the shirt. A camisole in place.

Amity’s jaw slackened, feeling a blush rise up her neck.

“Holy shit.” Amity spoke quietly, and to both of the women’s surprise.

Amity covered her mouth, frantically about to back track as Luz immediately raised her hands in surrender.

“I’m sorry, I had a wardrobe malfunction this morning that caused me to accidentally tie dye my white shirt. I didn’t have any other options, so please just give me a chance to do this interview, I can make up for this, I promise!” The shirtless woman spoke with a wavering voice.

Amity was at a loss for words, and with a current of anger rushing through her, she growled out, “Who in the right mind would think that this was appropriate?”

“Urr, well? I’m not sure, but maybe you could eventually once I tell you about the college I att-“

“Oh, really? Who do you think I am? You better have gone to a pretty good college to think I’d ever think this was okay.”

“Umm, how about Stanford?”

Amity smiled skeptically, “As. If. Give me your résumé, if you’ve not made an art project out of that, too.”

With a nervous chuckle, Luz leaned down to pull open her briefcase, but quickly stopped as Amity spoke, “Oh, and please, have a seat.” The manager deadpanned.

Luz nodded anxiously, sitting and opening the briefcase in her lap. The contents being disorderly with her run that morning.

She shuffled through the papers and finally found the resume.

With a shaking hand, she slid it to the blond haired woman in front of her, who quickly turned it to face herself.

Luz watched as Amity scanned the paper, her eyebrows furrowing as she soon got to the bottom of the page.

With an exhale of air, Amity looked up, making sure to avoid the bare stomach of the woman who sat before her.

“Well. This is surprising to say the least.” The woman uttered, looking tired.

With an awkward smile, Luz spoke, “Well, surprise?”
