Work Text:
“Six!” Mono piped up happily, leaning against her own locker, dangerously spinning his phone around. Sighing, Six gently patted his side, causing him to dramatically spin around with a gasp of mock hurt “How dare!” Rolling her eyes, the girl ignored her dramatic friend to spin the dial on her lock till it popped open.
“Rude~” He drawled, almost pouting with how hard he was laying on the puppy dog eyes “I was waitin’ all by my lonesome, so that we can hang out and this is how you thank me.” He put a hand to his forehead in a faint, sliding down to sit on the floor “Oh woe is me, I don’t think I can go on anymore.” With an exaggerated ‘bleh’ sound, he stuck his tongue out, one eye closed as he peeked up at her.
“Oh get up you big baby.” She offered her hand, which the boy didn’t hesitate to take. Standing back on his own two feet, the boy smirked at her retreating down the hallway, now twirling her own phone in his hands. The yellow case recognizable even from a distance
“You know better!” He laughed, Six couldn’t fight her own laughter as she finally gathered all of the books she needed into her backpack and walked over to the other, plucking her phone out of his outstretched hands. Mono was a sneak, but he wasn’t a cruel one
“Are we getting the homewrecker or is it bath time?” Mono chuckled snapping his fingers a few times before dignifying her question with a reply
“Rk’s competition is next month as you very well know.” He mocked all poshly “He’s probably waiting outside of Ms. T’s room for us as always.” Mono always walked with a slight bounce in his step that Six lacked, her own short legs struggling to keep up with the giant's own slow pace.
They crossed the school in no time, eventually finding the boy where Mono had said he would be, sat crossed legged outside the closed door into the classroom, messing with a game console that Six could never quite remember the name for.
“Otter!” Mono chriped excitedly, hands flicking as the other boy perked up giving the boy a goofy smile
“Howdy Mono!” He replied just as cheerfully, before he balked at Six “and hi Six.” He grumbled, though a smirk right after told her that he didn’t mean it
“Wassup bath boy.” Six bit back, grinning sharply
“Six, not every body of water is a bath.” He sighed, pressing a few more buttons on his game, before sliding it to the side, jumping up to give Mono a hug.
“And not every dragon is a dog, but Mono sure thinks so!” She grinned cheekily at the other boy, who blushed bright red at that moment being brought up again
“Come on.” He winned, digging his head into the shorter boy's jacket, fists tangling into the blue fabric “It was one time.” Even Rk laughed at that, gesturing to the game he was just playing
“Yeah, one time, except that it happened four separate times.” The embarrassed boy headbutted the other boys chest, cheeks puffed out as he pouted
“Fine.” He grumbled, pulling away to cross his arms in mock anger. Six meet eyes with Rk, faces slowly splitting into matching grins that put the cheshire cat's own to shame
“Drama king, drama king, drama king.” They chanted in sync, circling the pouting boy, arms in the air.
“Alright, I get it!” The boy light heartedly growled, directing false glares at the two.
“If you all are very well done.” Jumping the group all whipped around, watching hearts beating heavy in embarrassment as Ms. T pulled her keys out and set to unlocking the door “With the way you three were acting, you might as well put that energy to use, in detention” The women glared over her glasses, before her frown softened just slightly at their dejected looks
“There are much better ways to be hyper about, like working on your grades.” Eyes sharply staring at Six, the girl grinning just as sharply back, through the redness of her face. Threat hanging heavy in the air between them, the teacher finished opening the door and disappeared into the waiting classroom, leaving them to stew in that embarrassment and frustration.
Face probably a glowing red with both anger and a mixture of the earlier embarrassment; Six saw that the others weren’t faring any better, Mono tapping and twisting his hands all over the place nervous hums flooding the air after Ms. T left. Rk had all but disappeared into his jacket, barely a nest of fluffy brown hair visible. Gulping, Six nervously laughed
“Hey, are any of you doing anything after school, because I think we just got threatened into a ton of extra credit?” Chuckling nervously, ice blue eyes darted between the other two, Mono eventually working out of his nervous energy to help Rk unturtle
“Look at us making the Lady proud, becoming dashing rapscallions!” Mono puffed up, trying to look more confident than he obviously felt.
“Mono, I think you already gained that title after you stole the jacket right off her back.” Six chuckled, already pulling up her mom's contact information. The lady probably wouldn’t care if she was late getting home, so often sticking out late to hang out with Mono and Rk, but she’d probably get a good laugh out at Six’s misery.
“How do you think your dads gonna react to this, isn’t he weird about things like this?” Rk questioned, eyebrows pressed down in concern. Always the worrywart of the group
“Ha! I’m sure if he does anything that the Lady will cut him down to length!” Mono grinned lopsidedly “Besides, I’m pretty sure the worst he’d do is make me stop after school activities.” Rk sighed in relief, before confusion once again took over his expression
“You don’t-”
“Exactly!” Mono cut in smirking, Rk smiled, breathing out a sigh of relief, before setting his chin
“Then I guess we’re going from outcasts, to troublemaking outcasts.” Rk mock cheered, Mono and Six echoing after him barely able to keep a straight face.

Mono tried to keep the nervousness out of his posture, hands tightly closed around his friends. WHO HE TOTALLY WASN’T MADLY IN LOVE WITH, SHUT UP. Ms T had arrived only a few minutes ago, eyes scanning each and every student that had appeared, meeting the groups for only a few seconds before she glared and crossed something off of her clipboard.
“Hey, you alright?” Rk leaning in slightly to whisper into his ear, the boy fighting his blush at the closeness only managing a small smile and a nod to the worried boy, pretending not to see Six’s own worried face relax on the other side of him at the confirmation. Her tight grip on his hand relaxing to a firm, yet soft hold.
The moment Ms T started to tap her pen to the clipboard with impatience Mr H appeared, wheezing and looking as if he was fighting for his life. Mono would be a bit more worried if the man wasn’t constantly like that. Ms T just eyed the man with a heavy expression of exasperation, the woman rolling her eyes in an uncharacteristically open gesture from her, before turning to the room.
Silencing all chatter with a single look, she cleared her throat, Mr H leaning back onto the desk behind her, watching everyone with a disinterested look.
“As I’m sure you’ve all either known or guessed, this is detention, the rules are simple.” Gathering a ruler she punctuated each sentence with a smack “No talking. No eating, no drinking. If you have a question, raise your hand, either Mr H or I will come to you. Do not get up. You are to be working and if you don’t have any work, we will give you some.” This smack was particularly loud as she stared down at them from over her glasses, making Mono feel as if he was no bigger than and ant compared to her
“Am I clear?” A chorus of ‘Yes, Ms T.’ filled the room as she nodded in satisfaction, turning to sit at the desk, holding a quiet conversation with the other teacher.
Biting at his lip Mono was suddenly filled with anxiety that he had tried to push back, the quiet only amplifying it more, sweaty hands dropping everything to whip themselves clean on the rough texture of his pants. He barely heard a questioning hum over the buzz of his ears, before he felt the air shift beside him.
Cracking his eyes open, ears clearing at the sight of his friend. Grin and eyes sharp, prickled up like a wolf, Six stood her hoodie bright in the fluorescents, hands clenched perched atop the fake wood of her own desk. Ms T was eyeing her, almost challenging.
Hearing her breath in deep, she spoke under her breath
“Mono, Rk, we can leave right now you know. Get some hot chocolate and watch movies on the boat, we don’t have to stay, Ms T can’t really do much to stop us.” She spoke, a whisper under her breath hand held out for him to take, and Mono felt the rush of relief.
His dad would be mad sure, a call to him while at work will probably get electronics restricted for a week, maybe two. Looking at Rk, the boys face looked to be ready to do anything the other wanted, absolutely ready to throw hands with the teacher if the situation so calls for it.
Trying to fight the urge, his gulp turned into a sigh as he took Six’s hand and let her hoist him up.
“Ahoy, captain my captain.” He whispered to her, watching as she grinned, eyes alight with chaos
“Viva la revolution!!” She yelled, rushing around the desks and opening the cracked and only opened window wider, Mono and Rk not far behind “To the house boat!”
“Aye aye, capitaine!!” They chorused, hopping out before her, the girl close behind, turning around to stick her tongue out at the teachers, kept from following by all the other students breaking out in their own form of disorder.
Laughing, they sprinted across the courtyard, playfully pushing and shoving each other as they made it to the sidewalk.
“Th-that was so dumb.” Rk wheezed through his laughter, Mono making some noise of agreement through his own breathless giggles
“You did follow one of my ideas, you should’ve known better!” Six pipped in, spinning around to look at them, walking backwards, a mad grin wide on her face.
“We-we really should’ve.” Mono chortled, smiling goofily at the two. He really did love these dorks.
