Summary
There’s three things you need to know about David: he loves Camp Campbell, despite the number of oddballs it attracts, he loves his campers, even if they drive him up the wall, and he’d never wanted to kill anyone. It’s a shame no one believes him. After all, there’s a darker force at play at Camp Campbell, and David could use a little back-up.

Summary
Nikki lingered near the door, still pulled by her curiosity to gaze out at the storm. Everything looked so alien, the once familiar camp bathed in a new, foreign light. The chatter of her campmates is quiet compared to the patter of the rain on the slanted roof and against the windows.
When a thunderstorm blows across Camp Cambell, David gathers his kids in the Mess Hall to wait it out. They busy themselves with conversations, movies, and hot beverages, and Nikki finds herself basking in the warmth of their company.

Max sat up immediately. “Excuse you? I’m not a baby, David. I can survive a few hours without adult supervision.” He had a lot of practice, his parents started leaving him home alone when he was 6. Besides, It’s not like he’ll burn down the house, he actually likes it here.
“I know you can,” David said gently, walking over to kneel next to him. “But part of being your foster parent is making sure you’re safe. And I promised-”
or David becomes Max's foster parent after his parents forget him at camp (what else is new?), and has to hire a babysitter to watch over him while he's at a work thing
