Work Text:
Your entire life you thought you didn't care for love. Classmates came and went, asking if you'd ever had a crush, and you'd simply shrug. No, you hadn't. They'd get the hint and drop it for a less awkward topic, leaving you to wonder if there was something wrong with you if so many people were asking. Sure, you were able to find people attractive, but you'd never really entertained thoughts past them looking appealing. You basically resigned yourself to become a loveless being, wandering through life until you died alone. Even upon entering college, your outlook on the future hadn't changed in the slightest. You still hadn't had a boyfriend or anything, simply working towards some basic degree that would ensure you some kind of career, stability the least of your worries.
Walking into your first class with a backpack strap slung over your shoulder, you chatted with a hastily made friend as you surveyed the room for seats. Your friend, a bubbly girl with a smile way too wide to be natural, continued chatting as you honed in on a seat close to the exit of the lecture hall. Good for quick escapes and all that. The girl finished what she was saying before checking her phone and bidding you adieu, leaving you to the silence of the lecture hall. You were about 10 minutes early, and only one other person in the very far back on the opposite end of the hall was there. You sighed to yourself and pulled out your phone. You could check the login bonuses for all your games if push really came to shove. As time steadily marched forward and more people piled into the classroom, you vaguely noted how everyone sat with at least one other person in their section of row. You hummed at that observation - did this professor like having people work in partners? It wasn't a science class, so it seemed a bit weird. However, you reminded yourself that you were by the door. Whoever chose to sit next to you probably wouldn't be there as often as you would.
Logging into the LOLOL handheld app to accept your daily login bonus, drowning out the idle chatter of the remaining students flooding into the lecture hall and finindg their seats, you lost yourself in the extremely watered down lore of the LOLOL mobile training game. You could vaguely hear chairs screeching against the floor around you, acknowledging that you were no longer sitting alone in your row. You continued to think nothing of it, more focused instead on raising the affection bar of your favorite LOLOL npc. You were extremely close to getting his affection maxed out, which, at the max level, you could propose and virtually marry him. With a bit more grinding, you'd finally get there.
The doors to the lecture hall fell shut and the bell rang to signal the first class of the day, the professor striding to the podium in the front center of the hall. You groaned, turning your phone off and sliding it under your thigh for quick access. Setting their lesson binder onto the lectern, the professor took a prepatory sip of their coffee before opening their mouth to start class before an incessant banging came from the closed double doors. Your head whipped to look over, eyes wide as they darted from the doors to the professor. Obviously not pleased, the professor sighed and pinched the bridge of their nose.
"You, open the door." You nodded and quickly stood, tugging open the heavy metal door. Behind those doors was a guy. And oh boy was he a guy. Red faced and sweaty from probably sprinting across campus, a head of fluffy blonde hair shot up from the crouched position to look you in the face, glittering lilac eyes tucked into round chubby cheeks boring into yours before hurriedly shifting away.
"Sorry I'm late again, Professor Choi!" The professor hummed unamusedly as the student brushed by you. Jesus he was large. His stomach stuck out a good foot and a half in front of him before sloping down into a meaty overhang. His triforce shirt was a veritable tent, and even that was snug on him. Your eyes followed him dumbly for a few seconds before you mentally kicked yourself back into gear and you shuffled to sit back in your seat. As you sat down in your seat, you saw the blonde's face fall a little, his idle smile becoming stiff. You'd taken the last seat in the row, the one closest to the door. He gave the seat one forlorn look before taking an exhale and preparing to slide through the row. As soon as he made a move towards, you realized that that would be impossible. He was nearly as wide as the width between the top tiered row floor and the bottom tiered desks. He would most definitely get stuck.
Taking the initiative, you moved into the empty seat next to you, sliding your stuff a space over. The blonde's steps stuttered before his face lit up thankfully. You simply smiled back at him in return before turning back to the professor, trying not to hyperfocus on the guy beside you trying his hardest to catch a single breath. The professor leveled their eyes at the student beside you, face extremely unhappy.
"I will take no more late arrivals from you, Mr. Kim. You were given access to the dorm closest to this building for a reason - your seniority in my class will give you no leeway." 'Kim' beside you wilted, face turning sheepish as he unloaded his laptop from his backpack. Once satisfied with their scolding, the professor turned back to the class. "Now that we're past that disturbance, welcome to my class, students. I hope you all got my email last weekend, but if you didn't, I have printed a limited amount of the syllabus - " You zoned out, completely ignoring whatever the professor continued to say. You'd pored over the syllabus as soon as you'd gotten the email, no questions about the class coming to mind then or now. All you could think about was the Kim guy beside you breathing so loudly and, for some reason, mixing with the memory of the LOLOL npc waiting for you to seduce him into marriage. You had no clue why that had decided to pop into your head at this moment, but you had a weird constrcting feeling in your chest.
The more the professor droned on about the syllabus, the more you were incensed to whip your phone back out to grind for more of the npc's favorite item. Sneakily, and making sure the professor wouldn't notice, you reached under your thigh to whip out your phone. You hurriedly punched in your password and immediately switched from the homescreen to the LOLOL window. Thankfully, you were skilled enough to have memorized all the shortcuts on the app, so you easily opened the trade store, hoping that the npc's favorite item was on discount of the day. It wasn't, but thankfully you'd been saving up the special money grab diamond currency from login bonuses, so you had enough to buy it out of stock. As you were splurging to be able to marry the character today, you heard the vague shuffle of paper from your right. You glanced away from your screen, noticing a note ... from Kim's direction. Your eyes quickly darted over to him, his fat pinked cheeks pinkening further as he quickly averted his gaze nervously.
The note had a simple scribble of characters, one that you had figured out with a swift look. 'You like LOLOL? Me too'. Your chest choked up even more. You looked at Kim once more before shly smiling to yourself and grabbing your pen. You quickly scribbled back an affirmative, sliding it back towards Kim. His pale fat hand moved to take it, his own sausage fingers brushing against yours. The entire back of your neck felt hot and Kim jolted as if pinched sharply. Being quite a large guy, of course his chair just had to screech against the floor loudly. The professor, miffed, at your and Kim's direction.
"Excuse me, Mr. Kim. Is there a question you'd like to ask about this section of the syllabus?" Kim squeaked, his shoulders hunched in anxiety.
"A - Ah, no, Professor Choi," he stumbled. Jesus, all the celebrities you've lied about having crushes on flashed through your brain to remind you that that was what you should've - could've been feeling this way about. Not the obese senior student nervouslly huffing and puffing beside you.
"It was me, Professor. I ... I dozed off." The professor blinked at you before sighing. It was always the students that sat by the door that were the most troublesome.
"Well ... Keep quiet for the students that are actually trying to listen, you two. Or else I'll have you booted out of my classroom." You nodded quickly, trying to get the eyes off you as quick as possible. As soon as the professor turned back to talking about the syllabus, you felt like you could finally breath again. At least, until Kim gently tapped your shoulder. His expression was so sweet, lightly nibbling his bottom lip as he glimpsed up at you through his long dark lashes. All of a sudden your heart was set racing again.
"Thanks for sticking up for me. That was ... nice of you." You tried your best to smile in a friendly manner, not to grin too wide like a dummy.
"Yeah, no problem. Do you ... want to friend me on LOLOL?" The way Kim's entire dumpling face lit up was so precious you could hardly contain your own excitement.
"Kim Yoosung!" Both you and Kim startled, turning to the professor with sheepish smiles. Professor Choi was NOT happy. "You and your friend, OUT!" As Yoosung quickly stuffed his laptop into his bag, you took the hint and started shoving your materials into your own, hurrying out of the lecture hall with Yoosung hot on your tail. As soon as the doors slammed with distasteful finality, you let out a sigh. Great. Kicked out of your first in person college class on the first day of the semester. A deep inhale and exhale from your left brought your attention to the adorable pout of your newfound crush.
"Well that happened." You laughed softly in disbelief. Had you been in any other timeline of yourself, you would've been having a breakdown. How you were not was completely out of your hands (and into Yoosung's padded palms).
"Yeah it did. Wanna head over to my dorm and play LOLOL then?" Yoosung jerked in surprise, the shock melting into one of unadulterated joy before shifting into a pout again.
"Ah, I actually can't walk very far because of, uhm, my size. I get tired quick and there's not many benches on campus." You shrugged, not minding.
"How about yours then? If you'll have me?" Yoosung's eyes started to sparkle with glee.
"OF COURSE I'LL HAVE YOU!" He realized what he said a couple seconds too late, the backtracking strong with this one. "N - Not like that!" In a burst of either courage or stupidity, you spoke without thinking.
"Maybe it's like that."
The two of you stood in silence until you had shaken enough bone breaking embarrassment to tell Yoosung that your laptop was in your dorm and you had to go and get it. Luckily he didn't know how far away your dorm was and you were presented ample time to hype yourself up (and solve any inner pants problems). God, you had never met anyone more perfect in your entire life. You simply HAD to have him all to yourself and no other LOLOL lan party would ever top this one. Like, ever.
