Chapter Text
Harry was outside in the garden, pulling up the weeds that were just sprouting from the ground, when he heard a voice coming from a nearby bush.
Stupid humans, disturbing my rest and driving away my food.
Hello? Somewhere in the back of Harry's head, he realized that he was hissing instead of speaking.
A speaker! Oh, I never thought that I would meet one! What is your name speaker?
Speaker? Oh, my name is Harry. What's yours?
I have no name, speaker Harry. You could name me if you'd like.
Okay. Are you a girl or a boy?
I am female, speaker Harry.
Hmm... What about Tenebris? It means darkness in Latin.
I approve speaker Harry.
What did you mean by speaker? And why can I understand you?
You are a speaker, you speak the language of Snakes, Parseltonuge. You are a witch, only witches and wizards can be Parseltongues.
Harry tried not to cringe when she called him a "witch", but was obviously unsuccessful. It's not like it was her fault that he's a freak.
Speaker Harry? What's wrong? Are you hurt?
Harry smiled at the snake. I'm alright Tenebris. I just... I am not a witch.
Of course you are! You speak my language!
That's not what I meant... If anything, I'm a wizard.
Oh, my mistake speaker Harry. But you are a wizard! You are magic!
Harry paused. A wizard? Him? He was nothing, he was a freak. But...
Things began to click into place. The time that his hair grew back over night when Aunt Petunia gave him a horrid haircut. The time that he ended up on the roof while Dudley and his friends were Harry Hunting. The time that his teacher's hair turned blue. The cuts and broken bones and burns that healed almost overnight.
A grin broke out on his face. He was special. He was magic.
I'm a wizard.
“Girl!” Get inside and cook Duddykins some lunch!" Aunt Petunia hissed to him from a nearby window.
"Yes Aunt Petunia," Harry said, setting down his gloves and clippers on the ground.
Tenebris slithered quickly under her new master's shirt before he could stand. He was hers now, and she wasn't leaving him.
