Chapter 1: Saved

Chapter Text

Fundy looked through his bag as he walked down the almost empty street. Ranboo had already parted with him to go home faster, so that left Fundy alone as he walked home from work. It wasn’t like he minded, but he just felt a bit lonely waking alone. All he could do was text or call his friends, but it just didn’t feel the same as having someone with him physically.

Fundy just pulled out his phone anyway, but no one was available. He just let out a sigh as he looked around the street. He couldn’t talk to his dad either, he’d have to tell him that he was walking downtown in Manberg, and Wilbur is very opposed to that place. Fundy didn’t understand why he had such a hatred for it, it even extended to his father yelling at him for having a black flag with a red cross on it. Apparently it was the flag for the town.

Fundy’s entire family was very strict with him. He couldn’t blame them, but he was still an adult. Fundy couldn’t wait to move out, but now he was just stuck with them while he tried to work on finding a place to move to. A part of him considered Manberg just to spite his family, but he knew it would probably end up being The Greater DreamSMP, it was the main area of the place, plus Eret lived there, and she was pretty nice.

Though it would be pretty lonely. He could get a cat, he always wanted to do that, but his family was worried about taking care of it. Even then, he would still be alone concerning normal human contact most of the time. Fundy had friends, but some were busy, so he wasn’t really a priority.

Looking around, Fundy spotted something in the alleyway beside him. It was a small cardboard box. It wasn’t far in the alley, so someone had obviously left it out for another person to see and take. Fundy looked at the building closest to it, it was a flower shop. Odd.

Fundy was way too curious to let it go, so he walked over to the box. It wasn’t new, it had been there for a while. The street wasn’t empty, it was actually quite busy in the morning. There was definitely something in there though, it wouldn’t be that intact if something wasn’t keeping it up. Kneeling down, Fundy looked at the box more closely. There was a name on the side.

“Dream”

Suddenly a thing popped up from the box. Fundy jumped at first looking at the thing. It was a small blob creature, Fundy hadn’t seen anything like it. It was only 6 inches tall with a simple white body. On its face were two dots and a bright smile. It looked like it was drawn on, but it moved, it made expressions, the one currently was a pained smile, like he was begging for Fundy to take him home.

Apparently it’s name was Dream, an odd name for something like this, but it was cute. Fundy found it weird that it was outside a flower shop, he didn’t know what would be a perfectly acceptable place that would have this, but a flower shop was the last place Fundy would think of.

It seemed cute though, the smile was adorable to Fundy. Wilbur wouldn’t mind him bringing this thing in, it wasn’t a pet or anything, plus he could pass it off as a doll or something. Fundy just really wanted this thing now. Plus it seemed like everyone else left it, the least he could do was take them in.

“You seem nice, I’m assuming I can call you ‘Dream’?” Fundy asked. Dream nodded as best they could in a form like that, it was like they were mimicking a human. Fundy laughed as he reached a hand out to them. Dream tilted their head to the side for a second, then nudged their head against Fundy’s hand. Fundy opened the gaps in his fingers to let the small blob’s head go through, holding it in his hand and he squeezed on it a bit. It looked happy, “Oh you’re adorable. Can I take you with me? I’m assuming that’s why you’re out here.”

Dream nodded excitedly before burying their head in the palm of Fundy’s hand. Fundy laughed as he went to pick up the small thing. There were a couple things in the box, a small green blanket and a little set of headphones. There was a mask there too, though it was a lot bigger than them.

Fundy put Dream on his shoulder as he went to pick up the items, putting them in his bag. The mask was actually pretty cool, it looked like their face with the smile, except this didn’t move. Fundy put it away in a safe space, taking Dream back in his hands. He held the blob to his chest, keeping them close while letting them look out in front of them.

It seemed really happy, Fundy smiled seeing a little blush on its face. He was glad to have this thing finally have a home, even if his family might not like it. It didn’t matter though, he wasn’t abandoning Dream, he had already grown too attached to them, and Dream had grown attached to him.

Fundy opened the door quietly, holding Dream protectively in his hands. He already told them about his family, so they were hiding, which Fundy thought was cute. No one was around as far as Fundy could see, so he just hurried over to his room before anyone showed up. Tommy was probably with Tubbo and Techno the same with his old friends, leaving Philza and Wilbur that might be left.

Fundy made sure to be quiet so as to not alert anyone there that he was home, he could lie his way out of the situation, but he really didn’t want to take any chances. He told Dream about how if they need to then they have to pretend to be a doll so his family doesn’t get freaked out. They agreed, but Fundy still had worry that his dad might see through it.

“You got home later than you usually do,” Wilbur said behind Fundy. Fundy mumbled soft swears to himself, he got distracted by Dream in his hands. All he had to do was say that it was a doll and nothing else, “What’s that you have in your hands?”

“Oh, it’s a doll I found,” Fundy said, turning to face his dad. He felt his worry increase seeing Phil with him. Dream went still in his hands, Fundy taking a breath as he lowered his hands to show Wilbur and Phil, “I just thought it was cute.”

“It’s creepy as hell,” Phil said, unnerved by them. Wilbur seemed nervous too. Maybe it was because Dream was turned to them, which meant that they were probably staring at them directly, “Are you sure you want that thing, it seems haunted.”

Fundy looked at Dream, turning them away from Phil and Wilbur. Dream broke character for a bit to smile brightly at Fundy, a small blush on his face. Fundy smiled back. Phil probably did know more about this than him, but it couldn’t be that bad, Dream seemed so nice to him.

“I’m sure,” Fundy said. Phil just left to go to the kitchen, still looking a bit scared of Dream. Wilbur wasn’t any better, staring at Fundy’s hands with his new friend. Fundy looked back at his dad, “You okay?”

“Yeah, just a bit weirded out,” Wilbur mumbled. Fundy just shrugged as he began walking back to his room. They believed it, so that was good. They were scared of them, but as long as they could stay it was fine.

Dream dropped the act again, going back to moving around in Fundy’s hands. They seem excited to stay. Fundy laughed quietly. He moved Dream over to one hand to open the door, giving them a small squeeze, they seemed to like it, plus it felt kind of fun. Fundy locked them in the room, making sure no other people came in.

Fundy walked over to his bed, setting Dream down on it. They seemed to really like the soft blanket. Fundy walked over to his desk to set down his bag, reluctantly looking away from Dream. It wasn’t because of distrust of any sort, Fundy doubted they could do anything dangerous. But a part of him just wanted to keep looking at the small creature, see what they do and stuff.

He had to put away things though, he couldn’t spend all his time looking at this small blob thing. Fundy set aside Dream’s items, putting them in the center of his desk so he wouldn’t forget them. It wouldn’t be hard, not with the mask. Fundy didn’t want to put it on, he was a bit scared of messing with things he shouldn’t.

The blanket was really cute though, it was well made, too. There were a lot of small details in it, ones that would be hard to do at a normal human’s size, that was interesting. Fundy just ignored it for the time being, instead focusing his attention to the other item. The headphones were adorable. Fundy brought out his phone to see if it actually plugged in, to his surprise they did.

Fundy just let the stuff be after a couple of experimenting, it wasn’t his stuff so it didn’t feel right. He walked back over to his bed, but didn’t immediately see the blob. Fundy laughed as he looked around the bed for where it was hiding, eventually seeing a small shift on the sheets. Fundy pulled the covers off of Dream a bit, letting him see their head slightly.

“Hello!” Fundy greeted. Dream smiled brightly, letting out a sound resembling laughing. It wasn’t at all human, instead it was a light squeaking noise with a soft purr. Fundy looked under his bed, seeing the small space under it. He didn’t really have a use for it, so it remained there for a long time, Dream could have a use for it though.

He didn’t want to have him go down there now though, he’d have to make it look nice for the poor thing. Until then, Fundy was fine having Dream in his bed for now, he just had to make sure he didn’t crush him.

Fundy heard a soft yawn above him, looking back up to see a very tired Dream looking at him. Fundy laughed as he laid back down on the bed, picking Dream back up in his hands. He remembered the green blanket, setting Dream down again to grab it for Dream. It didn’t seem like Dream wanted Fundy to leave just yet, biting down softly at his hand to keep him there.

“I know you’re tired, I’m just going to get your blanket,” Fundy said. Dream didn’t budge though, making Fundy sigh as he laid down. It was starting to become late, he could just chill until he went to sleep, he didn’t really have much to do, “You’re gonna be really needy, aren’t you?”

Dream seemed to look away nervously, so Fundy just reassured the blob gently. They calmed down at the soft touches from him, giving a soft purr. Fundy let them be and grabbed his phone to kill some time. Eventually he felt Dream rest their head on his arm, staying between Fundy’s arms.

It was nice having something around, he could never get a pet so having something like Dream felt nice. His family may think that they’re weird, but he wasn’t going to let anything happen to them. Dream was staying, Fundy was keeping his new little blob friend no matter what, even if Phil and Wilbur were right to be afraid of it.
