Chapter Text
He didn’t know when it had begun. These supposed "hauntings" that he's been experiencing. Yoongi is ninety percent sure he’s being haunted. It’s insane, something that should be dismissed as strange occurrences. However, there comes a point, a build up of unnerving events that changes into something different— when it can’t be called a coincidence anymore. He suspects It had been going on for a long time before he had actually noticed anything. The fleeting whispers you hear when you're alone, could be brushed off as your own mind playing tricks on you… Just little things.
It’s not like cats are showing up dead at his door or walls were bleeding threatening messages.
At least, not yet...
Inside the breakroom, Yoongi sighed and tapped his fingers against the side of his thigh. He sat on a sleek leather couch, his mind an anxious mess. He really shouldn't be working himself up over something as trivial as childish fears.
Yoongi leaned forward and grabbed the water bottle that’s placed on the floor. His hand shook a little as he twisted the cap off— from exhaustion or weariness, he didn’t know. As he tilted the bottle back to drink the refreshing liquid, did he take the time to look at the other members scattered around him.
Jimin and Taehyung are leaning against the wall to his right, whispering to each other. Sometimes they would glance around the room in between sentences, an unfamiliar emotion set in their eyes. Jin sat crossed-legged on the floor next to Jungkook. They’re mumbling to each other as well, though, they looked more relaxed, the air around them lighter than the previous two. That is, till Yoongi catches Jin glancing towards the exit, his hyung’s eyebrows creased with worry. That bothered Yoongi far more than he’d like to admit. It was like spiders crawling under his skin, nails on a chalkboard. Needless to say, it’s unsettling.
Still, curiosity took hold of him. He capped his water, set it back down, and followed Jin's line of sight.
There at the door, Namjoon and Hoseok stood, engaged in a deep conversation. Their low tones carried across the room, The background mummer would drain the built up stress that lingered in Yoongi's shoulders; If it wasn't for the hard look plastered on their faces.
"...Yoongi..."
He jolted to the edge of his seat, a hand clutching at his heaving chest. His eyes swept across the room once, twice, but he knew he couldn't see a noise. Yoongi swallowed, removing his hand to instead grasp the arm of the couch. Sweat began to fall from the back of his neck, cold and uncomfortable in its trail down his spine. He closed his eyes tight and forced himself to breath.
"...Yoongi...please..." The distorted whisper floated past his ears once again and he felt an icy chill run up his spine. It’d be easy to believe that it was one of his fellow band mates playing mean tricks on him— the bastards. It would be easy to get mad and scold them as they laughed from their mischievous game. It would be easy...but nothing was easy. Not for Min Yoongi at least.
He knew that this wasn't just some stupid joke the others were playing to mess with him. It couldn't have been them. He knew because the others were still immersed in their conversations, too busy to even look at him.
That and...The voice spoke perfect English. A British accent that was attached to each word spoken. To top it all off, it was a woman's voice that followed him.
Yoongi shivered. He had been hearing this whisper for a whole two months. The voice would speak to him throughout the day. Sometimes, he would be in his studio alone. Typing and clicking away on his computer, when his ears would catch it.
It would be barely audible in the beginning, he would have to focus to even hear it. As the whispers got louder, whatever room he would be in would drop dramatically in temperature. The second Yoongi could see the fog of his breath, he’d be running back home with his tail between his legs.
Hell, he was in the Airport once, surrounded by a loud crowd of his fans, when he heard the damned whisper. It was so quiet, yet louder than anything else around him. How could that be?
He remembered freaking out and blindly reaching to grip Jungkook's arm, who was walking next to him. When the Maknae locked eyes with his second oldest Hyung and saw the fear that swirled in those normally indifferent orbs, he knew something was wrong.
Jungkook removed his arm from his hyung's deadly grasp and instead moved to wrap it around Yoongi’s waist; pulling the smaller man into his chest. He quickened his pace, bringing them both to walk beside their manager, Sejin.
Jungkook elbowed the man, hoping to catch his attention away from whatever he was focused on.
When Sejin turned to look at Jungkook— and by default, Yoongi— he immediately motioned toward security.
The circle of guards around them tightened and began urging them faster to their transportation.
Sejin opened the car door for the two distraught boys next to him, rushing them in. Jungkook shoved Yoongi inside first, which in turn knocked him against Hoseok, before getting in himself.
See, Yoongi himself wasn't too shaken when he latched on to the Maknae, just a little spooked. But when Sejin notified security, that's when he began to think that something was really wrong. Maybe they heard the woman too?
But he was wrong, when Sejin shut the door and moved to the passenger side, Jungkook immediately turned and pulled Yoongi’s arms away from his chest. When the Maknae didn’t find what he was looking for, he moved his hands to feel over the older boy’s chest, moving up toward his neck and face. Hoseok must've caught on to the situation as he began to move his own hands along the back of Yoongi's head, "Yoongi-hyung, where does it hurt?"
Yoongi blinked and glanced back at Jungkook, surprised with how serious Bangtan's baby was acting. Then again, the kid had become more mature in his ventures through adulthood. Yoongi answered, "I-I'm not hurt, Kook-ah." Yoongi cursed internally, hating the way he’d stuttered.
Both Hoseok and Jungkook looked unconvinced but they couldn't find any evidence to prove that he obtained an injury.
Sejin twisted in his seat, reaching back to place a comforting hand on Yoongi’s knee. His eyes only held concern when the rapper looked at him. "Then what happened, Yoongi-ah?" Sejin inquired softly.
Yoongi looked down, what was he supposed to say? Oh, you know, just the same creepy voice that’s been following me for over a month, nothing serious. Yeah, no. Yoongi won’t willingly fall down that rabbit hole. He wasn’t keen on ending up under the concerned gazes of his fellow group members. Knowing the boys would only question his mental state. So instead, he swallowed down the truth and wrung his hands together. "There uh— There was this woman..." He trailed off, looking down at his lap. He knew, somehow the others would piece together what had supposedly happened by themselves. It wouldn’t be the truth, but he'd take it, anything to escape their heavy stares.
Hoseok mumbled something before moving to wrap an arm around his hyung’s shoulders. A small comforting embrace that did little to calm his nerves. Jungkook moved his hand to rub Yoongi’s thigh soothingly.
As always, his teammates were best at helping one another, becoming a shoulder to lean on figuratively and literally— They’re a family.
Sejin smiled at the familiar sight.
They had calmed down, and Yoongi knew why. They thought it was another Sasaeng issue. Yoongi snorted, he wished, it’d have made more sense than whatever was happening.
His manager’s voice was kind, "Don't worry, Yoongi-ah. I'll get this all sorted out, you won't get any trouble from her again."
And that was that.
Now here he was, sitting on this couch, in the break room behind the dance studio, stuck hearing that damn whisper again. Over the past two months, it's been getting more and more frequent in its attempts at garnering his attention. He assumes it’s getting stronger. Maybe that means he’s truly going crazy.
There's nothing he can do about it now though.
"Alright guys, breaks over. Let's get back to it, we still need more practice before this comeback." Namjoon's voice filtered throughout the room, causing everyone else to groan.
Yoongi stood up and stretched, following everyone else out into the dance hall. The voice would have to wait for now, he had a job to do. This comeback needed to be perfect.
