In a particularly harsh winter in 12, Katniss is once again finding that she is tied to Peeta Mellark, that he can bring her a sense of hope without even meaning to. When she winds up working in his family's bakery, she doesn't want to get to know him, doesn't want to add to the incalculable debt she feels she owes him. But she can't help but grow to appreciate him, even despite herself.

Summary
It's been almost 6 months since the end of the war. Katniss and Peeta have managed to regain the friendship they'd thought they lost, but Katniss is unsure if Peeta is ready to face his old feelings and pursue something more between them. Katniss herself worries that she may not be mentally prepared for what a relationship might entail. The problem is, that hunger she felt for him on the beach in the Quell won't relent, and it only grows stronger when they resume their previous sleeping arrangements.
In an attempt to stave off the hunger she feels for Peeta without putting pressure on him to label what exactly he feels for her, she suggests a simple proposition—that they become friends with benefits.
But friends with benefits is never as simple as it sounds, especially not with a history like theirs.

"I don’t think I need much introduction- for all the wrong reasons, unfortunately,” Peeta says laughing. He looks a little bashful despite his grin. “I’m somewhat of a boogeyman in these parts.”
“Well, you certainly keep things interesting around here,” Glimmer says wryly,“and the younger ladies are wiser for it.”
I blush as the crowd chuckles at Glimmer’s jab, feeling a little flustered. Peeta laughs along freely, seemingly unbothered at being the butt of Glimmer's joke. I think that was a little unkind of her. The wilderness of District 12 might not be for everyone, especially for someone in the capitol, but I'm sure there is something to love. I think Peeta Mellark could make someone happy.
Everyone around her think Peeta Mellark is a joke. But there's something about him that Katniss finds charming.
