    Jason and Roy fell into their relationship naturally. So naturally, in fact, that they never really needed to waste precious breaths stating "I love you" out loud. Only, when Roy changes things and says these words, Jason finds that he can't say them back.

    Literally.

    No matter how hard he tries, the words catch in his throat with a burning pain. The fire in his throat hurts almost as bad as watching Roy walk away.

    "But you know what?" Clark continues, lifting his hand to the side of Bruce's face. He traces Bruce's cheek with his thumb, slow and gentle. Bruce looks back up at him, expression guarded, eyes almost uncertain. "Every moment I was apart from you these last few weeks felt like a heartbreak, too."

    Bruce swallows. For a few seconds, he says nothing.

    "That's how it feels for me," Clark continues quietly, though the words hurt as much as they ease the pain. "And I only realized what it meant when I saw you again tonight."
