Edmond is routinely mystified by Rei. He’s a baffling combination of circumspect and lewd. More than once, Edmond has seen him slinking around the gardens or inside the mansion like a feral cat inspecting its territory. He’s also definitely overheard Rei and Eiden doing…that. Summary
Equally exasperated, Eiden practically stomps over. He reaches out to grasp one of Rei’s hands and sucks in a breath. In comparison, Eiden’s hands are hot, exacerbating the pain in Rei’s fingers.
“Shit,” Eiden mutters. “Your hands—they’re all red, but they feel like ice.”
“It’s fine.”
“How long were you in the cabin? Did you sleep in the cold? When was the last time you ate?” Eiden throws questions at him at the same time he tugs him off the stool.
Stumbling, Rei pitches forward into Eiden’s arms. “I told you, it’s fine.”
“Sure, sure.”

Rei is neglecting his own needs for warmth, food, and sleep. He’s on the verge of hypothermia when he’s retrieved from his cabin and brought to Eiden’s comforting arms. There are a few more nice surprises for him in store, courtesy of a fussy owl, a nosy pain in the ass fox, and a Grand Sorcerer who knows how to take care of his clan.
