Instead, one hour-long dinner has him feeling sixteen again, instincts frayed and exposed. He’d been dangerously close to slicking up from nothing more than eye contact. It’s mortifying.
And now Harry will be around even more, helping his dad with the dresser. But Louis is determined not to let that happen again. He has a presentation to finish. He’ll stay glued to his laptop, buried in work, too busy to let Harry infiltrate his thoughts.
He drops into his nest with a soft sigh, the baby-soft comforter curling around him, protectively. He stares up at the glow-in-the-dark stars on his ceiling, chest rising and falling slowly.
If he can just avoid Harry, everything will be fine.
It has to be.
Or, the one where Louis comes home for the holidays to his home town of Brickwood, a small mountain town that he left years ago without looking back. His stressful job means no holiday is his own. He has a big presentation to finish and a deadline that he can't miss. But change and his family and the alpha that he was hopelessly in love with before he left threaten to ruin everything for him. But it may not be such a bad thing after all.

Before his fingers reach the handle, a pair of shoes steps into view — black Converse, scuffed and dirty, the laces fraying. And right there, drawn on the toe in fading ink, is a tiny smiley face with X’s for eyes. The same one Louis always doodles in the margins of his notebook.
His breath catches.
He straightens slowly, fake knife forgotten in his hand. Standing before him is another Ghostface — mask identical to his own. This one is taller, broader, dressed in a fitted black long-sleeved shirt that stretches over defined arms and solid pecs. Dark cargo pants hug strong legs, and Louis swears he can feel the pull of the man’s gravity even through the haze of sweat and sound.
He expects him to speak — to lift the mask and say something sleazy, like all the others had. But instead, the stranger just raises a gloved hand. A silent offer.

The moment footsteps echo just in front of him, Louis feels something strange ripple down his spine—an instinctive pull, a sudden, overwhelming urge to lower his head and bare his throat.
He clenches his jaw and forces himself to resist. No. He won’t lower his head like prey. He’s already too vulnerable being naked, dry, and completely changed. He won’t make it worse by cowering.
He lifts his eyes instead.
Two humans stand in front of him and they have the same face.
For a moment, Louis’ mind blanks. He’s not sure if he’s seeing double, if his injury is worse than he thought, or if this is simply… a human thing. Do all humans have a twin? Or is this some kind of magic? An illusion?
They’re beautiful. That much he registers, despite everything.
Or, the one where Louis is a merman prince who's desperate to escape his royal responsibilities and he happens to be at the right place at the right time and meets the Styles twins who teach him all about the human world that he's grown so curious of. He learns its easy to fall in love but hard to completely escape his old life for good.

Harry smiles a toothy grin, the right side of his mouth curling up into a flash of deviance. “Are you gonna give it to me?” His eyes can’t help but travel down Louis’ body.
“My… cake?” Louis lightly laughs, pointing a finger to his chest, and leans up from his bent-over position on the table.
“Just a taste,” Harry wraps a hand around his almost empty glass of beer, “for the birthday boy?” He lifts it to take the last sip, downing the rest, and eyes Louis as he swallows.
