    She had been a natural fit for the ruling faction, her charm and wit practically a birthright in the Uplands. Her skill with a blade had secured her a place among the knights, too. But the wizard faction? That had always been out of reach.
    She had shown little to no natural talent for magic, no sparks of the arcane to mark her as special. And yet, standing here now, she felt a pull she couldn’t quite explain.
