Summary
They say when you’re revived, your soul snaps back like a rubber band. But Will didn’t die in a hospital; he died in a world of rot, and when he was pulled back in 1983, his soul sheared.
Now, in the heat of 1989, Will hides his scars and ignores how Mike Wheeler looks at him. He pretends to be fine, but he is actually exhausted. He is also not alone. A thirteen-year-old version of himself named Liam is standing in his bedroom mirror. Liam is pale and soaking wet, appearing exactly as Will did when he first went missing. Only Will can see him.
While Will deals with this ghost, Mike is struggling. He is unhappy in his relationship with Jane and is lashing out because he is confused about his feelings for Will. Everything changes when Will sees a vision in the Void. He discovers the truth about the night he disappeared and realizes the deadbolt on his front door didn't open by the Demogorgon.
Liam is protective. He wants Will to stop being afraid and start helping him face the truth. As their secrets come out, Will and Mike are forced to confront their trauma and the feelings they have been hiding from each other for years.
Or, where Will is haunted by a ghost of his younger self.

Summary
“I want to transfer,” Mike blurts instead. He only makes the realisation once the words leave his mouth. There’s nothing good about this place, save for the fragments of time he can speak to Will in.
“Okay,” Will says simply. “Cool.”
Something unknots itself in Mike’s chest.
“Do you know where?” Will asks, when Mike doesn’t say anything else.
“No.” Mike smiles ruefully. “I literally just made the decision.”
Will laughs again. “Would I be biased if I said there’s a good creative writing course at NYU?”
(Spring, 1991. Mike doesn't think he can handle a moment longer spent studying business in Indianapolis. Will's invitation to visit him in New York is a lifeline, really – Mike just never expected it to be so transformative.)

Summary
“Just saying, if you’re taking another hit, you should share it with me,” Mike says, and Will slowly tilts his head, drinking in every word. “It just makes sense. Like, mathematically.”
Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”
“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”
In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.
So, they get a little high. Mike is very normal about all of it.

Summary
Will touched his cheek in concern. “You okay, Mike?”
Mike managed a jerky nod. “Yeah, fine. You’re just…” He broke off to clear his throat and finally lifted his hands to place them on the small of Will’s back. His skin was smooth and warm. Mike’s thumb moved with the dip in his spine, tracing along the curve. “You know.” Hot and on top of me.
Will smiled, pleased at that. “I do know,” he said loftily, and Mike got the sense he really did, and frequently used it against him to get his way. “But I like it when you tell me.”
Mike wakes ten years in the future, a successful novelist and in a committed relationship with Will.
