Summary
Chan had a history of clinging to things only when he risked losing them. It wasn’t healthy, but lots of things about him weren’t healthy. If an old shirt developed a hole, he wore it for a week straight before finally throwing it in the trash. It used to make Felix laugh, make him unbearably fond.
He wondered how long he had left being clung to, the old shirt that Chan was on the verge of throwing away. He wondered if it would hurt more to be cut off entirely, or if this agonising lingering was worse.

This was stupid. It’s just a storm.
Anakin flinched and hid under the covers as thunder clapped, surrounding himself with the warmth of his own breaths as the wind grew stronger. He was sure his jolt of fear had escaped into the force and longed to go back and shield better, but Obi-Wan was probably asleep anyway. Right?
Anakin was proved wrong when he heard the creek of a door down the hallway.

“I can’t say I’m surprised” Obi-Wan’s voice said back. Ahsoka felt a gentle squeeze on her shoulder that couldn’t be from Anakin, since his arms were wrapped around her waist and back. “Zygerria was a mess”
“What isn’t a mess in this war?” Anakin replied, pressing his cheek against one of Ahsoka’s montrals.

When Ahsoka ventures into her Master’s room for comfort after Zygerria, she finds two Masters instead of one. She doesn’t complain, she’s never complain about falling asleep beside her brothers.

Summary
If Anakin were to recount his life by age, it would go exactly as follows: he was born, then he was nine for a minute, then he turned twenty. There was no in between. Not without making his head go all tingly and his senses turn fuzzy.
Digging around in memories only ever prompted fade-to-blacks, and, if it was a particularly sensitive memory—a cut-to-black. Both saw Anakin thrown into the amnesia-inducing depths of void before he could even blink twice.
All the more reason to never think about that cursed planet ever again. He already lost enough time as it was.

Obi-Wan grabbed a packet of bacta and tissues from his pockets, and he reached toward the boy, wiping at the blood on his lips when he felt a tremor in the force that chilled him down to his bones. It was fear---Anakin’s. He was terrified.
He stopped immediately, pulling away, leaving the mess there. “What’s wrong, dearheart?”
“Nothing,” he lied, and they both knew it.
Obi-Wan learns more about Anakin's past, rather by accident. He does the best he can to re-assure him that he's his own master in the ways that count.

When his placating words do nothing to calm him, he instead attempts to reach out to him through the force, searching for a shred of consciousness in the shroud of fear and anguish that surrounds him.
What he finds instead confuses him further, as Anakin’s mind latches onto his own as soon as he reaches out, sucking him into what he can only assume is a memory.

It was silent for a long moment, spare for the horrible, awful sounds coming from his mouth. But then a pair of familiar arms were wrapping around him, pulling him in, and Anakin just let himself go as he buried his face into Obi-Wan's robes.
Anakin felt like a little kid again. Back when he first came to the temple, and he would wake up crying after a nightmare about Watto, and Obi-Wan would hold him, soothing him until he calmed down.
"Anakin, look at me," Obi-Wan whispered, brushing back his hair. He took Anakin's face in his hands. When Anakin opened his eyes, through the tears blurring his vision, he saw his former Master's gentle eyes looking into his.
"The chip isn't there, Anakin," he said firmly. "It's not there. I promise you."
