His expression softened - and I was relieved - at least, until his hand found the small of my back as he pulled me in, our lips pressed together before I even knew what was happening. Hand on my chin he opened up my mouth with his tongue - and I could taste the smoke mixed in with the warmth of his breath. Gently I felt myself be pulled forward, my arms giving way as I felt my chest on his - the fabric of our shirts so thin I could feel his body heat through every pore of my skin. His tongue swept against mine as he shifted his face to press in deeper - mind blank, I opened my eyes to face his bright jade gaze, before letting my weight sink into the curve of his body. His warm hands wrapped around me, every touch like spark and fire mixed with heavy words unspoken.
It was nothing like the kiss we shared in the prison. Soft, encouraging - I barely even registered the smoke anymore. The buds had long been put out; all I could think of was how my thighs were sandwiched between his, and that this winter night felt like spring.

“Oh, shit, Ash, man, c’mon. You know I didn’t mean it like that. I just…” Shorter trailed off.
“You just what, Shorter? I mean that’s what you said. It’s basically all my fault.”
Ash comes to Chang Dai for help. When Shorter is insistent that Ash go and have a rape kit done, certain biases and hard feelings come to light. Is it fair to blame someone for a crime that's out of their hands?

They're under a tree now, with damp, fire bright leaves raining down around them. Mike's head is in Scott's lap. He feels sore in too many places to count. As always, Scott looks concerned, but not like a mother or a brother would be.
"How much?" Mike asks. I think maybe I love you.
Scott presses something that feels like folded bills into his hand. He doesn't count it.
