    Summary

Before anyone could hazard a guess, a thunderous metallic clang shook the room. A heavy grinding noise filled the air, loud enough to rattle their teeth as four pairs of eyes turned skyward. For a moment, the vivid blue of the ceiling’s artificial sky seemed to flare brighter. Then everything seemed to happen at once. The lights flared, blindingly bright before a sharp pop plunged the room into darkness. An object crashed through the fragile wire mesh that made up the ceiling, revealing a host of narrow platforms and burnt out illumination banks as part of a horizontal tunnel swung in midair.

“That’s the horizontal turbolift,” Bant cried out, eyes wide.

Reeft’s face was twisted with horror. “It’s going to crash!”

    Quinlan didn’t hesitate.

After being recalled to the Temple to investigate a thwarted assassination attempt on the Order’s grandmaster, Quinlan Vos and his master must uncover the identity of their saboteur before more lives are placed at risk. But ghosts haunt the halls of the Temple, and things Quin would rather leave forgotten, are brought to light. What is right, and what is wrong? It’s all a game, with stakes set higher than you can possibly imagine.

Beware: Maegor with teats has begotten Aerion the Monstrous.

Prince Aerion Targaryen once drank a cup of wildfire, convinced it would make him a dragon. It made him a corpse instead—briefly. Fate (or the gods, or some bored Valyrian demon with a taste for jokes) spits him back into the world generations earlier, reborn as the twin brother of Prince Jacerys Velaryon, son of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

    He isn’t a dragon. Tragic.

Still Aerion decides to do what he does best:

    Cause problems on purpose.
