With the gradualness of a dream, Wake becomes aware that he’s wet, freezing, soaked to the skin, as if staring at the rain is the same as standing in it. Zane’s fingers are hot on his face and his mouth tastes like almond liqueur. Zane grabs at him, and here they are, two imaginary men in a hotel room that isn’t a hotel room, ghosts in an empty city.
The lights flicker and the cameras whir.
