"Where would we be without our awful coping mechanisms?" Shoko extinguished the cigarette in the ashtray on her desk and set the bottle down. A second ashtray. Maybe she did have a problem if she needed to have several ashtrays in a single room. "Drugs, alcohol. I suppose we could take up gambling or get a shopping addiction."
"Sex," Utahime supplied.
Shoko paused, a flash of warmth shot through her. "Yeah, with who?"

Emery Walsh returns from vacation to find that PTMC's emergency department has a brand new attending physician: charismatic, cooperative, and with a voice sweet like honey that Emery can't seem to get out of her mind, no matter how much she despises sweet things. She finds herself drifting towards the ED before and after her shift, if just to catch a short conversation with the new attending.
Baran Al-Hashimi is trying to carve her place in the emergency department as a reliable and caring attending, which means cooperation with all of the staff. Though everyone warns her that the complex attending surgeon is a bit angry and tough to handle, Baran can't help but look forward to seeing her for the few minutes she can every day.
