He lays a hand upon her shoulder, and it is so hot through the gauzy cotton of her chemise. She wonders if he is not feverish too. “They are soaked through, and it is not good to have the dampness so close to your lungs. Better to have them off.”
She supposes she should argue, but she knows that it matters not if she is in her stays or her chemise or completely bare, at this point. If anyone ever found out about this, her reputation would be ruined either way.
