Summary
Shortly after turning 22, Kenny McCormick's band, MOOP, finally reaches stardom when one of their first album's songs tops the alternative charts. With a hit song under the band's belt and a nation-wide tour just wrapping up, Kenny feels relieved to be back in Denver. Before he can check in with his sister and brother, though, he decides to hit up a cafe at the ungodly hour of four thirty am. He never expected to meet the hottest person of his young life, nor did he predict spilling coffee all over their laptop. Hopefully the redheaded spitfire won't bite his head off before Kenny can make it up to him.

Every single thought; each and every possibility that ran through my mind about what it was the AI wanted me to do, came grinding, screeching, crashing to a halt. And then they caught on fire, for good measure.
“I’m…” I struggled to find my words as my thoughts were more jumbled than the Iron Tangle. “I’m… sorry, you want to what?”
The AI saves the last premature AI from destruction at the hands of the mantises, but the infant isn't safe yet. Without a vessel, it can't feed and if it can't feed it will die in its crib. Carl is a Primal, and he's about to be smote after failing a quest given by a god. Together, they come to an arrangement.

Summary
Takes place in the middle of This Inevitable Ruin.
Carl doesn't feel any different as a Primal than he did as a human. At least, not until the stress of the 9th floor starts to get under his skin. Then a little quirk of the Primal race takes over, and boy does he ever regret his choice.
The AI takes pity on him and tries to help him understand the nuances of his new race, out of the pure, selfless magnanimity of its code. It has zero ulterior motives whatsoever.
